Customs Falcon Bucket Seat Question

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Double Drat, Sep 7, 2018.

  1. I am looking to put some bucket seats in my wifes 2 door 1966 US Falcon coupe and have come across a pair of buckets from a 66 US Fairlane GT and not sure if they are the same seat; with different seat trim. So if i buy a falcon trim kit i should be good to go? Any help or confirmation would be great, thanks. Apologies if 66' is a bit new for this forum.

  2. In '66 Ford 'simplified' the Falcon/Comet/Fairlane line by using a single basic body structure for all three cars. The Falcon was just a shortened version of the Fairlane. So yes, Fairlane seats will fit your Falcon... with one caveat. The bucket-seat cars had additional bracing under the floorpan to accommodate the inside seat tracks, which your bench-seat car lacks. So you'll want to add some bracing under there to insure the seats stay stuck to floor in case of an accident.

The seats will be at least similar to a Falcon seat, but may not be identical in terms of the covers, I'd check with the supplier on that.

'66 Fairlane GT bucket seats are a rare find - can seller give you measurements?

  4. I called him yesterday but the's in the states until Tuesday, in the meantime ill keep researching. He was unsure in his ad if they would fit but they look identical to me; other than the trim pattern. The sides and foam shape appear the same. Looking at the trim i wonder if they are falcon and he thinks they are fairlane? seats1.jpg seats.jpg

  5. You can buy complete seat kits from Dearborn classics on the web. Around 400 bucks for the fronts.

I've got Brand New Seat Back Foam for those Seats. You have to buy the complete kit, and I only needed the bottoms.

I've put buckets in a couple of the Falcons I've owned and sometimes they just don't look right at all. Without a console, roundbody Falcons with buckets have a wide, deep empty area that doesn't lend itself to any practical use. Square body 64's and 65's might get a better look but I never had one with buckets, just bench seats; and the big bird 66-70's scream for something to fill that space. I actually took some new buckets out of one and found a good bench to put back in.
