Any one know of any drop spindals that will fit my still four lug, stock '61 Ranchero? I want to retain the four lug for a while. I'm in the middle of installing the bags and I need it lower. Thanks Rich

i realy dont know if this can be done with the older round bodies

  4. fat man makes some, but you have to change your upper control arm to the later, 64-65 falcon type so you have the bigger upper ball joints. with the fat man spindles you also have to convert to disk brakes & 5 lug. you should be able to get it low enough without dropped spindles, i did the shelby upper control arm trick, & cut 68 mustang coils on the front of my ranchero, also used the 68 mustang shock mount & made shock extensions for more suspension travel. works good.

I saw on TV , the hotrod shows on sunday, they put bell tech s10 dropped splinders on a 65 mustang. since the mustang and falcon are alike, maybe...

granada might work also..but then you'd have the brake issues still...why keep it..so the rear doesn't change?...

I don't want to have to buy another new set of WWW tires. These are 13" and also help get it lower. It's sitting about 2" off the ground right now with the bags down but I want to lay frame. There are other ways but I'd like to see if there is an easier way to drop it down further. Thanks For the replys so far. Rich

Okay, I want to lay rockers and I know there's rockers. I bought my air bag kit from FBI in Rancho cordova. I would be into some parts, looking for p***enger fender and tail gate. I'll post some good pics tomorrow. These are from when I got it. Thanks Rich

you dont need no stinkin drop spindles, especially with 13's, my 61 was bagged on 17's and was 1'' from ground and you really dont want it on the ground anyway because the steering arms are the first thing down and your trans. pan if its automatic, just shorten the piece that holds the bump stop.

I've been trying to find you forever! haha

I met you at a show in Bakersfield a few years ago, but more recently I wanted to ask about the rear setup on your car. Would you mind PMing me some info on what you did? Thanks!

Since there was some confusion, I was asking hanginlow58, hence my reason for quoting his post. Thanks.

I also don't think you need drop spindles to get the front really low. The front of my car lays really low on original 13" wheels and airbags.

It's the rear that needs work to get it low. You need to cut out the trunk/bed floor for clearance and also raise the driveshaft tunnel or else the driveshaft drags. We didn't do that on my car, so that's the limiting factor and will need to be redone one day. Not sure how that's set up on the Rancheros.

On the Ranchero I think I'll be able to get away without cuting into the floor. I'll be raising the tunnel for sure.

My Ranchero has a static drop (dearched leaves with blocks out back), and the driveshaft rubs the tunnel as-is. I had to put air shocks on it temporarily just to be able to drive it. On mine, I might raise the tunnel from front to back in order to raise the engine for a little more clearance.

My driveline rubs now but not for long, the plasma cutter has something to say about that.

ditching the tiny 13" wheels for some 14's will visually lower the car, even if it sits a bit higher.

also, on my falcon, the first thing to hit after i removed the bumpstops was the strut rod hitting the "frame", i moved it to below the lower control arm instead of on top, which got me some more drop with the stock suspension.

Cut the coils. That's pretty much all you can do besides that Shelby mod. Mine is just cut coils and a leaf taken out of each pack out back with three-inch blocks.

Just use thin whitewalls, not wide. It's more appropriate, but it also allows you to buy dirt cheap inexpensive tires.

Run 3" blocks but remove a leaf or two from your stack. I ran 2" dropped rear springs (about $150, espo.com) and 3" blocks before installing air.

For the front, cut the coils.

How many turns did you guys cut? We have a 61 Comet, 4 lug 13's with www's. Those of you that went the air bag route....are you running those 850 dollar shockwaves? Is there a cheaper way?
