So I need a new lower ball joint. I think rightly I have decided to get new springs and all new upper and lowers for both sides. Its all the original still and the springs that are in it were cut an inch and half before I put the heavier motor in it. (I live in the land of potholes and keep blowing through bump stops.) My question is, that for some reason my year wagon (61) the ball joints are kinda pricey. Like around $75 each, I have searched about 8 places and price is around the same. I have saved for it and am willing to pay that but before I do, I am wondering if anyone knows of any other ideas/brands like Moog or something that would work with my car. I want the best without completely overhaulin the front end. Sorry if its a dumb question but I searched everywhere else and figured I would ask you all. Thanks! :)

Lower ball joint/control arm assembly should be the same as a 64-66 mustang. Try searching for parts under 65 mustang with 289 v-8. CJ pony parts has lower control arm assembly listed at $42. Part #LCA1. Hope that helps.

Thanks Cornbinder to my limited knowledge I think 60 to 61 are different? Or maybe its just the lower thats different cause I am pretty sure its separate of the arm assembly? I have no idea but I will for sure look into it! Thanks!

the old moog catalog shows the newer arm/ball joint fits the 62-up models, but not the 60-61.

I don't know what the difference would be...

I dont really know too. The 3 bolt to 4 bolt maybe? The laters are all one assembly and mine is not? All the places I have called and talked to cant really tell me why. Thanks for the help though. Anyone else know for sure?

  6. The balljoints and tierod ends on the 60-1 Falcons are smaller. Not many people want them, so they cost more.

The 62-5 Arms should go right in place, but then spindles and all wont match. The balljoint studs are smaller on the early stuff.

If you can find the whole later changeover, it will go right in. Then if you are doing that, go with disc, and on and on...

  7. I'm out on Long Island but am familiar with the streets of NYC! Try shopping around for parts, but try to get a name brand. The cost driver with the Falcon/Mustang lower ball joint is that it comes with the lower arm.

The uppers are the ones that go first on Falcons, so check those as well. Let the suspension hang and lift up on the wheel. The upper a-arm bushings are a treat to change as well. The bushings have this funky thread that screws into the arm and nobody ever greases them!

Falcons are super cool low-maintenance cars, always good to see someone do one up stock.

Thanks. Desertratrodder great info thanks! I dont think I am ready to do the whole changeover yet though. It is probably what I should do, but I dont have a shop to really work out of. I need a one day kinda thing right now till I can get in somewhere and really change it over.

Thanks Bob.....really at this point though I think the only stock thing left in the wagon is the front end! ;)

I just bought the front end stuff for my son's '63 and the MOOG lower ball joint listed for $75. The counter guy says "that's weird", but when he retrieved the box it was the whole lower control arm. Didn't seem so bad then.

The upper you have to grind the rivet heads off and ream the holes so it's a bolt on replacement.

Great site LGH1157! Looks like exactly what I was looking for! Thank you! I will give them a call. Looks like they are not to far from me too! It says 60-70 so I hope that is true and it will all work and is not wagon specific! Which I do run into alot, but I dont think it is. Thank you again!!!
