falcon rearend width

    what is the rearend width of a stock 62 falcon i want to put an 8'' from a 77 granada in it and i get 52 3/8'' from flange to flange but dont have a falcon rearend to compare widths with

    The 60-63 are the same basic body style. A 63 with a V8 was 56 inches from mounting surface to mounting surface. The narrowest 8 inch ford ever made.

    With the granada rear, you will not be able to use a standard mag wheel such as a torque thruster or crager ( 3 & 3/8 inch back space on a 6 inch wheel) unless you are using a 185 series skinny *** tire. You can buy steel wheels with a 4 inch back spacing that will make things work with a wider tire.

    What I have done in the past is to order a custom rear from Currie that is 55 inches.

    I would at least look for a 63 falcon/comet rear end or a early maverick.

    The chart is incorrect:
    49-51 Merc rear is 61 1/4 in. WMS to WMS.
    1971-1973 Mustang is the same.

    The Granada rearend is a perfect fit. The spring pads don't even have to be moved. Bolt up and go.

    the maverick is a direct bolt in. granada is abit wider and will need offset rims

    Exactly..... and in either case forget using a mag wheel. A steel wheel is your only option.

    im fine with only running steel wheels for now i just want to get this thing driving by spring its been apart in my garage for about 4 years now. thanks for the replies

    If your sticking with a six I would look into a Ranger rear end. I'm not sure what year it is, but i have one here that is right at 55 1/2" wide all up. Tons of them out in the wrecking yards too. The down side is that they are a 7.5 type axle, so running hard with a V8 is not in the equasion. The Granada is a bit too wide for these cars. even if you can get some deep backspace wheels to ge some rubber under it, the next big problem becomes getting the wheel and tire combo in and out of the fenderwell... Especially bad if you drop it a bit, trust me on this one!
