The pattern should be: R 1 3 OR _1 3 |_ | / | | | / | 2/ 4 R 2/ 4 There are replacement shifters available just like the ford shifter or they make shift handles that bolt to hurst shifters that look just like the Ford handle. I've got a standard Hurst lever in mine as most of us had to change them back then for any serious use anyway. I broke my stock handle one day just pulling second gear hard.
Yeh, your shifter is a blend of OEM, Hurst, Foxcraft, coat hangers, old bicycles. Borg Warner T-10 four speed. Mustang shifter WON'T work. Must be for a Falcon, possibly Comet.
I like your car, the stance if just right, straight axle but not so nose high as to look funny. Looks like you have another good one in the yellow car. I am on my third '65 Falcon now and have had two '64 Comets. I hope to start soon on bringing mine back as a B or C /FX clone. I am going old school with it and trying to make it as close to they way they were back then.
Don't forget the nail being used in the shifter as the pull lever! haha If stuff was in upside down would it cause the shift pattern where R is by 2nd on the bottom to be on the top?
All these little patterns are harder to follow than these pics. One on the left is early Mustang/Cougar. One on the right is Fairlane/Falcon. Regardless of whether it is a T10 or a Dagenham box. this is the early 3 speed shifter this is a T10 4 speed
They probably didn't have to change the reverse lever for clearance as it is in a different area of the tunnel. The photos that hotroddon posted are a good way of showing what we were talking about. The pattern I tried to show slipped when posted, not sure why. Looks like you have the correct transmission as it has the shifter mount in the correct location and the short looking tailshaft housing.
I found a picture of one with the arms going up so now I know what you guys are talking about being upside down. thanks again for all the information! It helps a ton.
Unbolt all that crap, throw it in the nearest dumpster and order a Hurst Competition Plus. I have one in my '65 Comet and it rules.
sweet car man. i want one real bad for a daily. you can do the shelby drop also. it lowers the front by like an inch and it's free. you just redrill the shock towers for the upper a-arms. i have the drill guide and the drill bit. if you want to borrow it shoot me a p.m.
well i pulled the carpet today and the floors are not that bad. Should be fairly easy to fix. The part that concerns me is not rust through but the area on both sides in the area where the rear of the buckets bolt up to being broke. I can fix it easy enough but I want to find out what caused it. Most of the rust is surface and some of it is just that horse hair crap... The two broken areas. The worst of the rust...
