Cut the rear flange off and made a roll pan, playing with bumpers now. Has anyone ever tried a 61-63 thunderbird hoodscoop? I just ordered one on ebay. Looked pretty close and it will replace that fake one that comes on the falcon

 

Hi all, I posted these up on my intro but probably should have put them here. Had the Falcon 46 years, the Comet about 6. They're not show cars, just every-day drivers. All 3 of our kids(young adults) and their partners have keys. I encourage them to drive either whenever possible. My wife built the 302 in the Falcon because she'd always wanted to build a motor.

 

Because Falcons won't die!

 

Since I'm here I have a question for y'all. Has anyone attempted to install '63 Falcon sheet-metal from the firewall forward on a '63 Comet?
I've been looking at ours and contemplating starting another project.

 

No, but I've seen a Comet nose on a '63 Ranchero, so I'd guess the opposite is true.

 

It can be done; my Dad did it with his Comet/Falcon/Mustang salvage yard special. And, he did it around 1967 using parts he got from his job at the local salvage yard. He told me a few years back that he never had a title for any of the cars he used to build it; he used a title from a completely totalled Falcon to register it. Scary.

 

Interesting. I lined up both cars one day and took a look at the body moldings, openings, etc. Seems to me if you guys have seen variants then I guess I need to look harder. A Comet with a Falcon nose might look kinda cool......or really effed up, not certain which yet, lol.

My 21 yr old son just bought this one
So we will be on here asking questions
It’s a little rough around the edges
Missing a lot of interior trim
And maybe some exterior trim too
I’m not sure how much was removed

Originally a V8 according to the VIN
Currently has a 302 with a lumpy cam
And a c4 I think
Has AC that doesn’t quite blow cold enough
Drivers window fell off the track driving it home
Paint looks good in pics but terrible in person
Lot of dings and stuff that didn’t get fixed before it got sprayed

 

Look at the Australian Falcon for what a Falcon looks like with Comet front dress. Very close.

 

Roundhouse, nice car. If it's gonna be a daily driver I wouldn't worry too much about dings and dents - it's going to acquire more. Our Falcon was parked in it's usual spot in the barn when my Dad was rummaging in the joist's above.....dropped a little piece of 2X4 end first on the right front fender giving it a bruise. My Dad has since passed away and even if I re-did the entire car - I'd leave that little dent. Reminds me of him ( in a great way) everytime I see it.
62Rebel ........you're right, it does sorta look that way, the Argetinian Falcons do too.. I'd really be interested in seeing what our Comet ragtop would look like with a Falcon front end. Anybody here any good with altering pics?

 

I did not look at each page but did scroll through most of it, I did not see much 6 cyl engine mod stuff. Has anyone done anything with the 200ci cylinder head? I'm looking for a way to mount two carbs. I have seen the mid '60's hotrod mag story on what they did but I don't think I would be able to braze a steel flange to the head to build an intake off of. Also I would like to come up with something better than the store bought "clamp on" adapters. I have a milling machine and lathe so I can make up some stuff, just need a workable plan. has anyone done this?

 

The Schjeldahl book discusses direct-mounting a two-barrel carburetor to the log intake. I'm sure you could block off the original carburetor hole and use the same method to mount a pair of carbs instead. I prefer multiple carburetors on an inline as I think it balances the fuel-air charge, so it sounds like a solid plan to me.

The big problem with the log intake is that the inside is pretty rough, which messes up fuel atomization, so if you're going to be opening it up, it might pay to try to smooth it out some.

Some folks have band-sawed the intake off entirely and built something new from the intake ports out. That's well above my pay grade, but YMMV.

 

Do a search for a '2V' 6cyl head that was available in Australia, these had a bolt on inlet manifold, they are also currently being reproduced & available.
There is a local 63 falcon with a 2v 6cyl which does low 14 sec 1/4 mile times. (ed not low 13's but 14.2's)
