Well....even though I am no longer selling at flea market....I still have Carlisle in my blood....I went out yesterday and rented a handicap scooter and cruzed through the flea market....stopped and said Hi to my vendor friends, stopped and talked to Mike at Iron Trap Garage (my old spaces)....I did not see a lot of cars/trucks to take pictures of....but enjoy what I have....
For you guys and gals that have leg problems....there is a place at gate 3 to rent scooters....you need picture ID and $90 cash (NO credit cards) to rent a scooter for all day (530 pm)....I went to spring swap meet and had to leave after 3 hours....I couldn't do the walking....so to me it was worth the money to enjoy the whole day there....
Planning on heading out Friday morning 9/30. Had one of the rented scooters a year or so ago when my wife had a leg injury. They are slick.
A lot of the same cars that I've seen come back to Carlisle time and again. Don't really think the owners want to sell them.
My favorite show, there is nothing like Pennsylvania weather this time of year. go to lititz for a pretzel.
Glad you could get out there, Stan. We started on the hill and walked the whole thing in 7 hours. Including trips to the truck with goodis and stopping to overeat a sausage &peppers lunch. My pal got a cherry stet of Cal Custom valve covers for his '55. So many cheap tool stands it was like a horrible freight fest. But a few had Snap On and I bought a 1/2" rachet and a 9 piece wrench set. No regrets with that brand.
Also some stuff I could not do without. Sissy bar for the Schwinn, '57 collectable and hop stop bars.
I was there today. Walked for 5 hours and that was enough. Nice to go but sure isn't the same swap it used to be.
I can't help but compare it to the first time I went in 78. Old Ford flathead speed parts at every other booth and Car Corral had few cars above 8,000 bucks for the rarest and best. Shoebox Fords and Chevys were 2-3,000 in running, above average condition. Around eight acres of parts then and Hemi cars and Daytonas sprinkled through out and supposedly 1 of 8 big block/ 4 speed Monte Carlos was for sale. At least I got to experience that. This years show seemed to have above average buying.
I bought some undercoating and a bag of gloves. I remember being there in the decades ago and looking at an Indian Four Cylinder. I almost bought it but passed at $3500. I really don't know why I passed.
From Always to Occasional as the event has changed. I am glad you got a scooter. My experience with scooters at a lot of shows is that many of the drivers don't pay attention to those walking. It makes it tough to enjoy the stroll when you are always on the lookout for an inattentive driver cruising over to look at something.
I always appreciate the scooters and other powered rides that drag a light chain to gently remind us walkers that they are around.
It appears that this Swapmeet is going on all weekend? Might it be worth the 3 1/2 from the cancelled TROG?
