I had a blast...12.80 and 12.63 before I broke the rear. Looks like I have the winter to upgrade.

What a weekend! Great racing and even better people! Thanks to the Meltdown guys and to all those that came and put one hell of a show on. A very big thanks to Paul Zielsdorf and the Hairy Hauler, he made my daughters weekend. He not only let her sit in the truck for some photos but he asked her if she wanted a ride! He took her on an 1/8 mile blast that she will never forget, she still has the smile on her face! Thank You all those who attended, and I cant wait till next year!

    I
It was a great time spectating. Next year though I may run my 63 C10 with the 230 six banger. I see it's not about the reaction times and quarter mile speeds, it's about having fun. Sure I may run a 20 second quarter but I'll have a smile on my face doing it!

  8. Had a great time again at the fall out. Thanks for everyones hard work. The bbq was once again excellent. Couldnt ask for better weather. The track prep was great. I heard several racers say they ran their best times all year.

I was thinking about that. The first few passes the track was really slick. Later in the afternoon, with some Sun, more prep , more passes It really did improve. I really didn't know what to run for tire pressure on the Towel City recaps so I started at 25, then 22 (and made two good passes) and then 20 when I broke an axle.

This is a 360 video so if you don't have the goggles you can use your mouse to drag the picture around.

  19. The dragster looked cool with the ring slot chute out. They did a staged photo run to get some pics. You just dont see that any more. Saxxton won the engine. The quality and speeds of the cars participating at the meltdown events conitues to go up. I think the track was better prepared for the event this year. The crowd was bigger and they sure got their moneys worth.

Wow... What a great weekend !! Rock Falls just became my favorite track. It's immaculate, the staff were great and it hooked hard. The track staff kept things safe and moving along at a good pace. Clean up and the frequent drive shaft recoveries were quick and effective

The MDA put on a great event. It was smaller and more intimate than Meltdown and because of this we got to make 11 passes and still had time and fuel for maybe 2 more. But we shredded a 2nd blower belt due to a 2nd fuel cap coming loose and going into the belt (Happened - twice - ??). I was out of caps and we did some very minor damage so we called it a good weekend and stopped. The BBQ was great (thanks for feeding us) and the match racing were a lot of fun to watch. The spectator turnout was very good, especially Saturday. We had a blast hosting folks in the pits, answering questions and putting kids and big kids in the cars for photo ops. Even the impromptu car show in the parking lot was great... The after hours socializing with old friends and the new friends really made the event a complete experience.

It was great to see the MDA pick up some corporate sponsors... not the least was Suburban GM who saw fit to pick my name for a 350 crate engine. (Wow ... Thank you !!). I have to say that was very honored by the introduction from Steve Peterson of the MDA in presenting me the engine. I will continue to try and live up to those words.

I was equally honored and thoroughly enjoyed presenting Jeff Koopmeiner with the Hairy Doker Cup for his 2 out of 3 victory over Paul Zielsdorf. I hope this is the start of a long journey and many presentations for the Cup.

The Scout ran great !! We were limited to 10.00 so all but one of the passes were early shut off. We still managed a new PB 1/8 mile run of 6.05 / 117. I did dip into the 9's on 2 occasions. (oops ! ) 9.98 / 89 mph and a 9.89 / 101 mph. That last one earned me a very professional and obviously deserved talk from the tech guys. I got to match race my brother for 3 passes and a great one on one against the Hairy Hauler which saw me use a lot more of the track than planned. Nothing like getting sideways - twice and still make a big top end charge (134 mph)

The Prefect was a bit off pace but still made very loud hellacious rolling burnouts and ran mid 10's... My brother Paul and I matched up for 3 passes and tried to put on a bit of a show... The show needs work... actually - I need work - but it's getting there.

Did I mention one of my favorite moments was when Paul Z and Dave Z rolled into our pit area with the Hauler ?? With Dave driving and Paul riding shotgun. That was very very cool. Thought it was hilarious when Dave stated he didn't like driving and automatic. More than few folks nodded and grinned when I told him he could still stomp his clutch foot when shifting - if that helped...

On behalf of my wife and I, my brother and his wife and our friends who made the trip ... thank-you. The 10 hrs one way was not difficult and well worth the effort. Like Meltdown, I'll be in attendance as long as this event is held.

Yes we work really hard to keep everyone flowing and keep the track nice and sticky. I think the track is a couple maybe 3 years old. And next year we will be doing some remodeling to the track as well, stands, tower, possibly cement partitions for bigger cars.

I was bummed I couldn’t put the 55 down the track. Never dragged anything before cause all I’ve done is prep the nova to be a drag car and that’s far from done. But being the 55 was original and completely stock I thought I’d give it a shot. Batt retainer was at home, and no belts. Forehead slapper.

It was great fun watching all you guys and gals run. Glad so many of you made the trip up north. The Meltdown crew as well as the Rock Falls team helped make this meet an outstanding success.

I ran a PR 11.65 at 118 mph with my Ford 6 powered early style dragster. Drag racing is a process of finding the weakest link in the car and then fixing it. I'm shopping for a Powerglide as mine decided to only have one gear; neutral.
