I stopped by my buddy Greg's shop last night (GS Customs in Seymour, IL) and took some pics of the wild ass 60 Impala he is building. So far it is chopped 6 inches and has more mods than one can mention. Pay no attention to the wheels. Theay are just some freebies he uses as rollers. I think some Radirs or Astro Supremes would look cool with some WWW's, but that is just me. Photoshoppers? He isn't a HAMBER as of yet, but he wants to be. He doesn't have much time for goofing off!
Just for shits and giggles, here is a Merc he just finished for a guy. He hopes to have the Impala at Goodguys Indy along with a high end Studebaker Pickup he is building for someone right now.
absolutely WILD car. Some of the shapes I disagree with, some I love, but I really, really dig those full customs! Looking forward to seeing the finished job, even though it's great to see build pics.
Do you know if it's going to be finished in a 60s style, or will we see a billet steering wheel, etc? Those sculpted seat buckets and console will be really cool if they're finished in a 60s show car style! The rear window looks awkward, but I'm sure the overall look of the car will be wild. Thanks for the picts.
The stude truck is a 50 or so all on corvette suspension with a custom built frame, bags, and a slight chop (like 1 3/4 only on the front pillar). I didn't take any pics of it, but I may get some through the week. He is undecided about the color on the Impala. Greg wants to try to get some press with the Impala at Goodguys to drum up some more business. I don't think he'll have too much trouble. The pic I have of the front is rally crappy. It is under a lift and has a 60 Sedan delivery on top of it (Future shop wagon project). By the way, this will have a set of skirts over the rear wheels too. Here it is.
That's looking really cool. Traditional yeet fresh ideas! Good on him! Since he's not done yet though Id like to suggest that he straighten the rear bumper, if he hasn't noticed it's bent yet, and That chrome piece that wraps around at the headlight looks like it's probably really neat design but it needs the same treatment at the tail light to make the design congruent, and possibly an equally wide spear in the scoop on the door. It's not too late to change it, it's really not! Love the side pipe rockers and the interior! Is the whole car shortened?
It's not shortened at all. Maybe it's just the angle of the pics. Every panel has been alteed in some way though. I really hopes he goes 60's style with it, but he did mention boyds wheels much to my protest. Hopefully a pic w/some Radirs will sway him away. He is after the chainer bucks though.
Let's face it, It's Kool! Thats alot of work. That would make a good start for a full on '60's style custom. What other plans does he have for it? Thanks for sharing.
thats just wrong. my opinion. no blending 60's/90's. front looks like a s-10 pickup. lot of work that i cant do, but it just dont flow. i'll go away again now. thank you and good night !
As for the grille it is the original front bumper cut up and welded back together. Greg got a kick out of everyone's comments. As for the truck, it is a 64 that is going to just get a paint job. Nothin' fancy there.
I love it!! One question though, is that a giant lime green high heel shoe on the right side of the picture??

[/ QUOTE ] That maybe what you think you see except the newer trucks are retro-styling back to an updated version of the '54-'54 first series Chevy truck grill bar, so it's quite cross generational styling. What doesn't "flow"?
As the owner of "The world's wildest street-driven '57 Bel Air", I think I can say with conviction that that is definitely the wildest '60 Chevy I've ever seen...the builder is going to get a lot of mileage (publicity) out of that KUSTOM. Regardless of the wheels to be placed on the car...it IS a modern interpretation of what a kustom is...the only "traditional" references to the past I see is in the factory show cars of the late 60's... Besides, didn't Troy Trepanier build a '60 Chevy to launch his career? R-
thats one bad ass chevy! i like it all. shows a lot of inovation and thoughtfullness, no cookie cutter shit there.
Great work, very much in the style of the 60's show rods, even if updated a bit. I like it. How about some details on how he did the front windshield/roof area of the chop? It's a very difficult thing to pull off!
I was wrong on the front grille. It is 2 67 Camaro bumpers grafted together. As for the chop, I know the windshield is uncut, it was dropped down into a channel that was cut under it. He worked on it over the weekend a bit. Here is an updated shot. The yellow insert is where the switches, heater controls, etc. will be.
