the german 4s have a hemi head, a turbo is a supercharger, the whole car weighs like 1800 pounds. so really, in perspective you were driving a car with a blown hemi at 1/2 scale.

The fastest car I ever owned was a 85 Volvo 240 that I supercharged. It ran a 14.9 at Fontana. Not really that fast, but REALLY fast for an old Volvo.

However the fastest car I have driven was a Ferrari F430 Spider. Now that was FAST!!!

Where's that time slip??? Must be getting photoshopped... What a bunch of crap! The only part of the story that was believable to me was the part about a Chevy beating it...

I would take you up on that and then just sit there and wait till you hit the gas and then caught the $100 bill as it slid off the dash right down into my lap.

  7. Fastest car was probably a 1956 Studebaker Golden Hawk. Quickest was probably my '55 Chevy 210 two door, 301 cu.in. 3 two barrel rochesters, Duntov 97 cam, headers etc .. or maybe my '66 GTO. Probably a toss up there .. All fun stuff though ..

Quickest was a '70 GTO Judge. Unbelievable that cars like that came out of the factory.

Fastest was my '62 Studebaker Champ pickup with the tri power Pontiac 421. I never did find out how fast it would go, not enough road.

  12. 8.0's at 163 in my off topic car

  13. 1972 Chevelle, 402, 4 spd. '66 heads, L88 cam, torker intake,(used 4 different carbs) real corvair turbo mufflers, 3.73 gears, pegged the speedo many times. On a good launch it would pull the fronts off the ground a couple of inches.
Quickest was my IMCA dirt modified..........17.1 around a 3/8 dirt track

well, since we are bringing this thread back from the dead...

back in the 80s....1969 road runner , 440 with little head work and all the normal bolt ons, 4spd with an in line shifter and 4:56 posi gears. never took it to the track but probably a high 12 car. I never owned a car with just such raw power. Had a lot of fun nights with that car for a few summers!

'66 SS Chevelle with a 454 motor out of a race boat shoved in it. An M-21 with 4:10 posi and it was wicked fast. I never ran it at the drags but gauging it against other cars I've owned I'd estimate mid 13s.

I got scared of the smog laws and sold it. Some nut bought it for his 16 year old kid. I never saw it again but I'm sure it didn't end well.

  16. Wow!

    I'm kinda impressed.

Many times you see a thread like this it's usually full of the "mine's bigger than your's" bullshit.

Most of this thread seems to be pretty real and down to earth.

  17. Fastest car I ever owned is probably my current Model A Roadster. It has a 355 SBC with 373 rear gears. I haven't had it to the track yet, but I'm guessing it should be in the high 12's when comparing it to other cars I have owned, ridden in, or drove. I've also been contemplating on putting in a pretty healthy dual quad 406 SBC that I have sitting on a stand that would really livin' things up.

The fastest thing I have driven or owned though is definetely my 1200 Buell Lightning. It is a high 10 second bike, but that is not where it shines... From 0-80mph, it really gets it.

  18. 61 Buick Special station wagon

Consistant mid 17s but I got laid a lot in the cargo area ;)

  19. Well mine is bigger but not when its flacid.

And just to prove a point, while I hav probably already posted on this thread I still believe that the first lier never stands a chance. Soooo I had a '65 Corvair in the '70s that would do everything but fly and she was just gettin' started @ 180. :D

Ok that was an out and out lie, but I just could not resist.

  20. Woooowwwww...........

I hope you had yer helmet on! ;) :D

  21. Screw the helmet. A Vair at that speed you better have your depends on. ;)

I know it's not hamb friendly but my first car my 1980 eldorado with the 368 big block in it which is the last year for the big block caddy motors. She isn't very fast at take off but you can cruise down the high way at about 120 no problem

I was in Navy, stationed at Nuclear Power Basic School in Bainbridge, MD. Drove into Baltimore to see the strippers at what they called the "block", an area of adult entertainment back in the 1960s. Anyway drove past Anderson Chevrolet and in the showroom they had a 1965 fire engine red Corvette coupe, a leftover as the '66s had come out. 425HP 396, four speed, with 4:56 gears from the factory. Outside exhausts, knock off wheels. That bastard would fly! Bought it on E-4 pay, as I was living on base and could martial all my paycheck for GMAC.

No idea what official time was (And I had several fast cars back then) but I had a "S" code 67 Mustang FB when I worked at Gratiot Auto supply. Second night I had it I missed a 3rd gear shift and popped the cork on the old 390 (I knew the shifter needed new bushings and figured I would get around to it). When I was pulling the blown up 390 out, A friend of my Dad's told me he knew where there was a pretty snappy 427 Side Oiler that could be had.

It was an old dual quad 427 that was reported to be a test dyno engine. After getting it in,... and running good, I went through 2 more clutch's and pressure plates to find one that engine liked,.... chased down a gear that seemed to have enough performance and driveability (I was driving this daily back and forth to work in the summers) And my buddy and I did our best to find a way to tie the sub frames (something only talked about and read about back then) We came up with a way to do it,... looked a little weird but worked great.

I never got that car to the drag strip, But it was brutally fast and sometimes scary. It seen a lot of "Testing time" on Telegraph,"The Ditch" and occasionally Woodward. It scared me a few times and it seemed to always scare friends that rode with me. I had it for a couple years and then sold it to a younger guy that had a rich daddy (He asked how much ?... I shot him a stupid high price and much to my surprise he said OK)..... That kid had that car under two weeks before he totaled it. I tried to track down the wreck to get the drivetrain out of it, but could never find it. I started to build this 68' a few years back to be a visual clone of that car with a 302/C4 ,... But I picked up a 428 CJ /C6 that is sitting under the bench for it, but can't decide if I want to put it in or not...... Soooo like other projects, It got slid into the barn until I decide what to do. In other words, My wife will probably sell it at the auction when I'm dead.

Sorry about the OT picture. (The original sometimes had SS Cragars, But also ran Magnum 500's)

And as it is now,.... napping with some of it's brothers in the barn.

Not HAMB friendly at all, but my '95 Supra is the fastest I've owned. In normal street tune and boost on 93 oct pump gas (I also have 50/50 meth/water spray on it) it makes well over 620rwhp (est. 730 crank). It's set up more for road course action than drag strip. I've had it well over 160 and it was barely breathing hard.

Slightly more HAMB friendly is my Brookville reproduction '32 roadster in which I'm presently pulling out the non HAMB-ZZ4 and installing a non-HAMB-427 so with the increased power I hope it'll need retractable wings.
