As a passenger, 165 (indicated) in a Ferrari Daytona Coupe on Hwy 101 going to Monterey in 1977. As a driver, 135 in my BMW E30 M3 on Hwy 46 lookin for James Dean's ghost. On a bike, 'bout 125 on a Honda VF750F going to Willow Springs. In each case it wasn't just a squirt up to speed, it was get there and hold it for a few miles.
Not the fastest but the scariest. The last '66 Chevelle I did, 383, 350t, 3:73's taught me that my street racing days were over. I usually take the latest thing to work on Friday's and this guy from UPS would sometimes end up coming on the highway out there on 370 in an Elky and would want to go. I wouldn't, I mean there is space on that highway, long and smooth and everyone is doing like an average 85 anyway, still, I just wouldn't do it. Then yep, hit a happy hour on this one Friday, two beers, swear. Guess it was enough. Cruising down 370 and I see him coming around the cloverleaf and I am immediately thinking wtf...I mean it's like two hours later than usual and then the adrenaline is kicking in so it's not hard to talk myself into the fact that I am out of excuses. So I stay the course in the middle lane but slowing down a little to get some gear. He moves out to the fast lane and comes up real slow and then as expected, or guess more like anticipating, when his headlights were about to my door handle he hammers and I kind of see feel and hear his front end come up and it's on. At this point there are cars way the hell up the highway and no one at all behind us. So I'm leaving him, slowly but I am leaving him. And he won't lift. So I won't lift. Needle is buried. Now were coming up to the first car ahead of us and it's in the center lane and instead of possibly freaking the Elky guy out and going to the fast lane in front of him I move around to the slow lane and pass. Now I start moving back to the center lane and BANG like a f'n grenade went off. I remember looking up at the rearview and seeing shit flying. I'm thinking I lost the axle, no C kit. Also I'm thinking I'm dead. Because I am now going sideways and staring at the inside wall. So I correct but it feels like I'm floating on air. To much. So now I am staring at the fields which is no better as that drops off a nice 30 feet or so. Correct again. Staring at wall again. Correct again and now I am going off of the highway and decide f' this and lock it up sliding sideways into the breakdown lane like I planned it. Not true, just one lucky SOB. I remember looking down to see if I pissed myself and nope, so I'm the f' out of there. I come out of the car and he's pulling up behind and jumping out screaming "whoa dude that is the coolest shit I have ever seen" stuff. And I want to hit him. Then I realize thankfully I didn't lose the axle. The BRAND NEW BFG let go. Punched the 1/4 panel up and completely ripped out the drivers side trunk floor. Worse for him. He's still yelling and laughing it up telling what he saw and then we realize that he is saying something even hit his car. So now we turn to look and see that most of his brand new grill is punched in. "Oh man, you gonna take care that?" Now I could finally laugh, like a f'n idiot I might add still completely rushed from the whole ordeal. Yeah ok. "wtf you mean take care of that? you shouldn't have been behind me " He's pissed, we stare for a few seconds, and then he starts for his car. As he was walking away I couldn't resist, even thinking he is going to get his gun and kill me. "so I guess a ride up to the Mobil is out of the question?" He just saluted and never turned around. All that made me realize just how bad things can go. A full harness made me brave for to long. No helmet. No roll cage. At that speed if it wanted to barrel roll I would be not of this earth.
120-125 in an acura TL (then i got a ticket for doin 90 the next day). and probably about 115 in my fox body mustang. The speedo only goes to 85 but thats what I'd estimate. both cars still had a lot left in em. Now I just gotta see how fast my 54 ford goes when I put it on the road! im expecting maybe 80-90 mph haha and i probably wouldnt drive it that fast anyways
Mach 1.12 in an F4 Phantom , D model,1983,somewhere over the Florida Keys.I was in the back seat as a passenger, and we were on the way to Cuban airspace, something about setting off some alert bells that their military paid attention to.
5.37 sec @ 265+ in a Top Alcohol Dragster( Woodburn, Or 2004) 5.65 sec @ 259+ in a Top Alcohol Funny Car ( US Nationals, Indy, 2005) Much faster next weekend Seattle......
Lets see I was on my way home with a buddy in my 69 wildcat we were coming down the Grapevine and passed a Mercedes full of collage kids on there way home for break (I know this because we saw them at Ihop later) he hit the gas and passed me laughing so naturally I hit the gas and pulled ahead after going back and forth 3 or 4 times my buddy asked how fast we were going I looked down and told him I am not sure the needle is pegged (just passed 130) I pulled even with the Mercedes. I told my buddy the gas pedal only about half way down he turned and waved to the Mercedes and I mashed it the secondaries opened and that dame car took off so fast it put both of us back in our seats about a minuet minute and half letter the car is still pulling and we blow past a CHP that has a Big Rig pulled over. I thought for sure I was had. So I start backing out 3 exit latter it took that long to slow down I pulled off the freeway and into the Ihop. Thinking lets lay low for awhile and get something to eat. Thinking about it know that CHP probably didn't even see us. Course that was a few years ago Like 10-11 Lately I have had the SRT-4 just passed 140 on the 10 going to Phoenix then the wife started to wake up.
160 in a turbo carrera porsche, when I managed a porsche shop and was pissed at the boss, so I took the keys. Also 150 on a 3 cylender 2 stroke drag bike through the back streets of Oregon City, Oregon when I was a teen ager, same speed on same bike at woodburn dragstrip, same year.
140 in my 90' civic hatchback, 1.8L DOHC 4cyl, 4.75 final and custom ecu program. Fastest as passenger was 170 in a 97' Toyota supra with single turbo upgrade making close to 600hp...all speeds done courtesy of 5fwy through Bakersfield and Maricopa counties!lol
weou bakersfield, turned 120 in my 67 mustang 351 W C6 9inch w/ 390s i used to have down the 99...sold it to build my model A
A friend of mine's dad took me for a ride in his Chevy 454 powered Cobra kit car. I don't know how fast we were going(no speedo), but it was fast enough to litteraly stick me to the seat and make my face hurt.
600 MPH in a 747, ~150 in a Shinkansen, 125 in my '57 Olds and '63 Lotus Super 7. Most secure fast auto speed was my dad's 300SL gullwing, which felt completely stable at 100+; scariest was my '65 GTO which changed lanes by itself at the same speeds.
I had a couple of my own cars between 115-120. Recently I went for a wild ride when my oldest son said to a family friend and ex amateur road racer "so can I have a ride in your new car?" It's a dealer demo Cad CTS-V and I'd already seen a little of what it can do. He downshifted to 1st as he turned onto the freeway on ramp and nailed it. Wheel hop on the 1-2 shift, the 2-3, and the 3-4 at around 95. We peaked at a touch over 115 before we took the next off ramp for a street only 15 blocks from the one where we got on. Sweep to the right went smoothly, but the sweep to the left not so well. Did I forget to mention the road was wet? He slowed a little too hard going into the sweep left while trying to stop for the light at the end of the ramp and the tail started to come around. Once we were under control I told him "nice catch." He just laughed a little nervously. I'm not sure if he had the stability control on or not, but if so it probably saved our butts. After that he calmed down a little, but not much. We still took a cloverleaf posted 25 at almost 50, road still wet, and other assorted excitement. Memorable? Oh, yeah.
Wish i had an official clocked time......raceing a friends 79 transam his had been clocked at 150 by a police friend.......the next weekend we were playing around.....he would get me by a car length in the quarter mile....on trip back to town both of us were going about 70 when we went for it again.....and just keep going side by side.......and acording to where we were on his speedometer we were over 150......(my car was 72 comet gt......still had street gears but the engine was severely hoped up by previous owner.......and around that speed it started floating all over the road on slightest bump.........
140 in a 1969 Camaro with a 307 , 3 speed manual. Funny thing is that she had a wierd pecking noise there after .........
2 weeks ago I did a 2-way average 35mph on my skateboard (Schmitt Stix Danger Zone, Bullet Church Glass 60mm w/Indy 159's) while being pulled by CheaterJesses Honda Elite Scooter (Piloted and confirmed by Kory The Road Captain). Then we had a BBQ and rolled dice till the cops came. True. Cheater Carl
115mph in my 59 el camino, it was white knuckle because it is true the ass end like to float at speeds because of the fins
142mph in a vehicle pursuit (Dodge Diplomat) on I-95 in palm beach county FLA. i had to let the bad guy go when he and I went between two tractor trailer trucks driving side by side . I then went back to the station to change my shorts!
O/T 1998 yamaha YZF 600R ---- 145 mph My friends 2003 GSXR 750----- 165 mph---- Shhhhh! he doesn't know. But that was when i was single, I sold my bike a week after i got married, i was getting to comfortable on it and i thought i was going to kill myself!!
120 + on a 1994 Ninja 900 on hiway 1 in califonia near santa cruz. had a guy on an SRX-6 yamaha tailing me at 80, had to show him who's boss. about 5 miles down the road there are flares and cops and Kawasaki green body panels spread all over the hiway.... 'bout 100 feet of skid, a broadsided toyota and a dead guy under a yellow tarp. kind of makes you think.
Been 155 in a late 80's/early 90's (can't quite remember year) Vette. I'll never forget the old man lookin over at me smilin tellin me he had more pedal to give before we backed out of it.
I had a Nissan Pathfinder rental car up to 120 before the Speedometer quit registering the speed ... ahh Montana
Back in the day, like how many girls you had. The only speed bragging we could do is via be clocked by the man. My bud Tim held the in town record for 128 in a 25, in his hopped up Pinto! I still have the ticket, and held the record for highway speed. I was late to see a young lady in Eastern Washington. The stater clocked me at 147.3 in my 69 Dodge Charger.
Yeah, back when we didn't have a numerical speed limit out here in Montana, my buddy and I were doing 185mph on our crotch rockets (top speed for us) and passed an HP. He didn't even make an effort to catch us. God we laughed about that. (I was on a 150hp ZX-9R) We still wouldn't have a posted speed limit if the feds wouldn't have threatened to take away our highway funds....they are fun-haters....
a few years ago me,my dad, and a friend were comin' home from a car show(3 guys in 3 classic/custom cars). well i got stuck at a red light and the other guys got away from me and some traffic then got in front of me. i was drivin' my dads '57 chevy. i got past the traffic but had lost sight of the other guys, so i put the hammer down to catch up. i had the speedo needle burried at 120, but i couldnt believe i was goin' that fast. when we got home i asked my dad how acurate the speedometer was. he said it's pretty damn close.
