I drove a friends FED in the early 90's a few time. Best was a 8:50 @162mph. The first run was at night, the visor fogged up, the fire suit was way to tight, I couldn't see over the injector, but it felt pretty good. That run was quicker than my buddy had ever gone in it so that didn't fly with his wife. So that was the end of my driving career.
street car?/race car?/airplane? 145mph/173mph/260kts I went 105mph in an FKE cart once - amazing what that feels like when you're only a few inches off of the ground - very exhilarating and invigorating. I have ridden in a jet trainer, but wasn't really the PIC - but I did get to drive for a minute or two - I think we were doing about 425mph ground speed. That was an old T-33 - you other silverbacks with wings know what that is. dj
I went 176mph on I-71 heading towards Cincy in my buddies 97 Viper GTS, 155mph in my Dad's 04 Corvette 6 speed on St Rt 48, 140ish in my 95 Mercedes S600 Coupe on I-75. I have owned many classic cars too, just never felt safe at high speeds in them since I grew up driving 1990+ cars. The only pre-efi car I have taken over 100mph was my 78 T/A 4spd. It was surprisingly stable, although the engine was screaming with that 4.56 rear and saginaw 4 speed.
1973 IMSA 500 miler at Pocono. Car was my 71 Camaro GTO (FIA desgination, NOT Pontiac). Engine, 427 ZL-1, all aluminum. We used the straightaway then turned right onto the road course. Exiting the road course at the middle of the back straight (going clockwise around the oval), through turn 2 and 1. Back down the straight. Top speed, 7250 RPM...187 MPH. Headers both exited on the drivers side, against the wall. Can you say LOUD? That was the fastest I have ever gone. And did it over and over. Damn it was GREAT!!
125 MPH in a 1966 Mustang. Front end floating all over the road. Driver has since become a police officer. Motor is now in my 29 Ford.
155 and sat on the speed governor of my misubishi probably had another 10-15mph in her. 165+ in a ct-v and 165 was the last time i looked at the speedo before i just stopped looking because it didn't really matter once your going that fast.
Bbc powered rx-7.. El mirage in 1991.. I lifted at 176.. My anitomical restraint system (this is when your ass grabs the seat ) kicked in at about 150..
171 in my cousins 426 superbee. 79 MPH on snow skiis in a radar speed trap set up as a speed trial -- 68 MPH in a Super G course. The skiis were way more scary. I did not want to catch an edge.
150mph with my dad in his new 69 Super Bee on I-71 coming out of Cleveland. 160 in a rented Infinity G35 leaving Glacier National Park heading south. 9.01 in the quarter mile in a tube chassis GTO, I forget the mph.
haha read that quick and thought it said super beetle. glad i did a double take. ive done over 160 on my kawasaki ninja 600, and my current daily driver is a little nissan 240sx with a 400hp ls2 in it. no speedo currently, but calculators say it should top out 5th around 150, and i still have another gear.
