now that has to be the ultimate rush! how was the turning radius on those birds? was it as bogged out as a lot of the claims say? Closest I got to breaking the sound barrier was in a F-18 simulator at EL Toro before they closed it down...hell even in that thing (pretty intense and realistic) tunnel vision was crazy!

Went an indicated 140 in a friends '70 440 Magnum Charger, probably more like 125 m.p.h. I remember it took nearly a quarter tank of gas to get the speedo buried and then back to the legal freeway speed with four of us in the car!

'97 viper gts. Speedo said 181, but who knows. Whatever speed it was, it tried to suck the passenger window out when making a slight left lane change.

Got pulled over after taking a little ford beater (with a solid cam engine that made power to 7k rpm) to over 5500 rpms in 4th (1:1), with a 26" tire and 2.73 rear. When the officer asked if I knew how fast I was going, I said "my speedometer only goes to 85". He didn't care for that, but still only gave me a ticket for 99mph in a 70

I have been maybe 105 in my chevy silverado and i felt like the aerodynamics was on the verge of taking my life.

The trucks i have driven in the 100 + range all were one stiff breeze or bump from flight, the aerodynamics are all wrong for that speed. I don't think you could keep it in a 4 lane span over 110:( but maybe my sh*t is different than the other chevys out there.

  10. Past 140 in my 02 Ford Lightning, MMR SM900 LB, ported, cammed all the goodies. My 54 I think reached a chilling 70 MPH once.

124mph in a VW Golf Mk1. The speedometer needle was pointing straight down, but it overreads by 20%. Calculated from rpm, gear ratios, and tyre diameter it was an honest 200km/h.

On Eibach coils and custom dampers it felt solid as a rock. It's amazing how a bit of speed takes out all the jitteriness. The chassis is good for that extra 20% but the engine isn't ...

So, those of you that want to say motorcycles can't go 190 mph... you have to realize some of us ride real motorcycles, not air cooled v-twin..... ah, never mind.

I have previously stated that I personally have gone an indicated 181 on my Honda Blackbird. It is generally accepted that the speedo is indicating about 5-10% higher number so that makes my speed about 163 to 175. It's generally understood that using a power commander or other governor override with undo the governed speed limiter and 200+ mph is attainable with a mostly stock real motorcycle.

    From wikipedia:
The Suzuki Hayabusa (or GSX1300R) is a sport bike motorcycle made by Suzuki since 1999. It immediately won acclaim as the world's fastest production motorcycle, with a top speed of 188–194 miles per hour (303–312 km/h).

The Honda CBR1100XX, also known as the Super Blackbird is a motorcycle manufactured by Honda from 1996 to 2007. In the mid 1990s, Honda Motorcycles were determined to produce the world's fastest production motorcycle and to take over the associated bragging rights and marketing impact, at the time held by Kawasaki with its ZZ-R 1100.[3] This led to the creation of the CBR1100XX Super Blackbird, which achieved a verifiable 177 mph (285 km/h).[4] The Blackbird name is a nod to the Lockheed SR-71 aircraft, once the world's fastest aircraft.[5] Two years later the title had passed to the Suzuki Hayabusa which was able to exceed 188 mph (303 km/h).[3][6]

150 in a BMW M3, but it didn't feel nearly as fast as doing around 75 in my '41!

One of my old college buddies regularly attended the 200 club at the local airfield and topped the 200mph regularly on his modified hayabusa. I never accepted his invitation for a ride.

I had a '31 coupe, ALL ORIGINAL (even had the original front tires). The 80 yr old front end was toast. It was WAY squirrly, but I got it up to about 35 on a back road by my house. You had to turn the steering wheel at least half a turn before it would even engage. THAT was scary. lol.....

Very good point....haha. If they haven't swung a leg over a 175hp sport bike, they can't understand what they're capable of. My ZX9-R was extremely aerodynamic and very stable at 185, it was seriously stuck to the road.

Hitting 190 isn't hard at all for a liter bike with some mods.

In the air, around 350mph in a P-51 Mustang...

...on the ground, 226mph at Bonneville in the SO-CAL Speedshop-built MG ZTT (I know it's bit late for here but it also sneaked into Hop-Up Vol 5)...

...but it's all relative as 125mph seemed damn fast in the Bones' '32...

    Regards

    Jon'.

My '63 Dodge Custom 880 with the 383 and tall gears put the fear into me at about 120 with about 1/2 to 1/4 pedal left to go to the floor...I backed off and it took me a few minutes to calm down...I'd really love to take her to Bonneville for the hell of it and really open her up...all stock, but good lord can that 2 barrel beast scream...

110 MPH in my old Dodge van across the I-90 floating bridge around 1:00 in the morning, just because my buddy wanted to see what it was like to stand up going over 100 MPH. Came shooting out of the tunnel on the Seattle side like a Watermelon seed... only to see a cop waiting for me.... Beat the ticket in court.
