My 1965 Pontiac Bonneville with its stock 389, TH400 and 2.56 rear would run off the end of the speedo in half a mile from a standing start. I had a (Mallory) tacho on it which reckoned it was doing 4300 rpm which I reckon on the tyres I was using was just on 130mph. In that trim it would do a 15.7 1/4 mile. I ran a warmed 455 in it for a couple of years - with everything else still stock - which improved the 1/4 time to 14.1 but unfortunately the opportunity to try out the top end never presented itself. It certainly had more strength up top - that 14.1 1/4 mile meant going through the traps at 6000rpm in second gear. That was all more than 20 years ago. Nowadays there is too much traffic around to even think of trying to drive that fast on the road.
143 in a 71 camaro, i plan on going faster. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/Zt2gjju9w5Q?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

(QUOTE)I see you had one of those Mad Max switchable blowers, always good to have! I have no reason to doubt a single thing you say! [/QUOTE] Yup, got from Mel Gibson himself, I guess he took it off the car after the movie was done shooting, I traded a gitar for it. the gitar didnt have any strings so I think I got a good deal.

(10.19@130mph) But I've gone 150mph on a back road in the silver nova! I was giving my then 10 year old nephew a ride and ran it thru the gears but just stayed in it because there was plenty of road. To my surprise it pulled all the way up to 6700rpm! It felt like it was still pulling but that was as high as I was going to let it rev. When I got back I got a calculator and did the math. 6700rpm x .002975 x 26(tire diamiter) / 3.42(gear ratio)= 151.53mph And at that time it was on reproduction M/T redline bias ply tires! G70/14s There was so much air forceing thru the engine bay pushing up on the hood that the back edge of the hood was opening up 3 or 4 inches as the are escaped!
over 120 in a slicked out 78 trans-am just outside of my highschool in 1989 not for sure on real speed but the speedo wand was wrapped back up to the 15 mph mark on my TA WAS LIKE FLOATING ON AIR
Stupid as it was my wife blasted a 93 Coleman built Corvette down Aligator Allay at 162 with me encouraging her from the passengers seat. Then she made the mistake of boasting about it so I returned the favor at 182. That car would scream from 0-140. It was just about done at 182 when I eased off the gas. That was several years ago and I would never do that again.
Headin south on Rt. 47 approaching Gibson City in a 1969 Chevelle 4 door that I bought from a little old lady for fifty bucks. We were doing no less than 135 with this chick in the back seat handing us beers. We realize that we are coming close to town so we shut it down. Got popped for 75 in a 55.
I have a S600 V12 Mercedes on a back road I ran it up to 152 for a few miles. Felt solid but slowed to 100 and it seemed like I was doing 40. Benz claims it will do 165 and then the limiter kicks in. Maybe one day.
yeah i forgot to add in my post, the fastest v22 crew ever ac11 165852, me and three guys did 319KCAS. not even the MOTT and test guys did that!
Really? ~ this is your first post? No Intro As required, off topic car, no hot rod references. WOW, you ought to get a long great here
135 mph in a 69 T-bird (429) Turnpike south of Buffalo 127mph Eagle Raceway, NE dirt modified 3/8 oval track 115 mph Niagara Falls dragstrip - 72 Chevelle 22 mph downhill bike race, Shwinn 4 mph grocery cart (in store) Winn Dixie
SICK! Bet I can do 119mph, give your caviler a slight nerf, and make things a bit more fun. **EDIT** Sorry that wasn't very nice at all. I bet you have a real neat caviler. Sorry... Geezzzeeee.
I have a radar recipt from the Massachusetts State Police from back in 1967 on the Mass Thruway.... 167 MPH in a non-Hamb friendly Italian sports car. Judge decided it would be about fair if I paid $3 for every mph over the speedlimit, and walk 2 days for every mile over as well. I've been 207 in an IndyCar at Michigan.
Mach 1.0 in a F4E over the Gulf of Mexico on our way to Egin AFB for a TDY in June 1984. I was Maintenance Man of the Month and this was my incentive ride
105 in and NSX on a test track in cal city. (that as fast as we were allowed to go for the testing they needed)
my first thought was to make a commuter jet reference but it looks like that's been done... several times. So I guess I won't try to be funny. In a car, the fastest I've been was in my '67 Cougar XR7 with a 450hp 392 and 2.79 rear gears, on I-95 North between Augusta and Waterville. The speedometer only went to 120mph so I don't know how fast it was, but it was a lot more than that. If I had to guess I would say 160-ish. it was scary.
