i popped a motor in my '03 ford lightning at about 163 mph. i had a long stretch of empty county road in front of me so i decided to see what she would do. i buried the speedo in my '55 more times than i would like to admit, although it only went to 110, but given the rpms i would wind it out to, and the rear gear and tire diameter it had, it was only in the upper 120 mph range likely. i have taken my Aprilia RSV mille R up to 160 mph indicated. that almost made me poop myself everytime
I had my bike up to police special last august, it stops at 120 and says police special across the bottom. The guy that owns a local shop says I am too damned old for that stuff any more. I almost agree.
Back county road on my 1979 Kawasaki KZ 750B little over 110 mph that was crazy on that old bike still have the bike I don't do that shit anymore. On my Harley maybe but I got kids now so just being in the wind makes me happy.
Who the hell knows, the last thing I'm looking at is the speedometer when winding out the crotch rocket.
8.28 @ 168 mph at the age of 67 in the quarter mile. 115 on the freeway on a model A chassis (302 Ford powered)
160 in a c4 Porsche on the i5 in sandiego, 145 on a street bike, got death wobbles and the bars were slapping the tank all the way down to 70. Scared me enough to slowdown and sell the bike.
1970--new ford van with 302, doing 105 all the way through nevada. they had no speed limit back then. we'd pass hippies in vw vans who were doing maybe 40 and sounded like they would blow up!
125 on my shovel stroker about 1981-82, 96 incher, shook so bad I could hardly keep my fingers wrapped around the grips. When it idled the front wheel nearly hopped off the pavement, it was a brute and never lived long enough to be called reliable. And yes...I was scared shitless, but I wasn't about to let my buddy on a Yamaha XS 11 beat me. That old girl would pull so hard.......
I am looking at my El Mirage timing slip,, 16o in a roadster. Hope to have a 200 slip before I hang up the firesuit.
I averaged 168 over a mile in the Kelly & Hall Lakester in 2009 at Bonneville. It was a licensing pass and I wasn't supposed to go over 150. Oops. I've been 150 in my Tank so far. Looking for more this Summer. Wayno
now thats impressive!!!! but how did you get away with it at 16? I thought you had to be 18 years old to drive nascar? Anyways no one can top that!
When I was about twelve years old a friends two older brothers had the two fastest cars in town, one was a 64 Studebaker Avanti, I remember seeing 140(I swear) on the speedo, the other a 65 Sunbeam Tiger, about 120. I use to road race shifter karts at about 120 mph. It felt like 200.
Well I am not sure ,my wife was driving my 93 Chevy truck. She asked me, " what does it mean when the needle isn't on any numbers anymore". I said time to slow down, she laughed.
indicated 165 mph on my 1989 GSXR sling shot that was built as a full race drag bike, San Francico Ca. Bay Bridge at 3am on a Sunday morning, talk about the bridge supports disappering, and tunnel vision
Phttttt 67. 168 in 1320 feet, and all that with an inline. You got more practice than I do, not fair. I have actually been accused of going a lot a faster than I have ever been.
140+ on a wide-open Arizona highway in the mid 1990s, in an OT Firebird Formula 400 The spoiler on the back end was actually getting some work, that afternoon.
In the 70s had a 71 Pontiac T37 400 4 speed. Showed 140. Buried the needle. Probably 145. Good solid car. My buddy had a 68 gtx 426 hemi, 425 hp. 2 4bbls. It showed 160. He said it did 165 but at 145 I thought the front end was going to leave so that was enough for me.
I had an all electric VW Rabbit I believe it would run 240+ but not sure...regardless thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
This is really a lot faster than my beater '57 Plymouth should go. But it will do it. It was gear limited here with 3.73s, but now has 2.93s and I have no desire to see what it will do with them. (I didn't take the photo. I'm dumb, but not that dumb.)
About 110 in my 63 Avanti with my beer goggles on.Went 125 in my buddies 67 hemi belvedere before we decided to slow down because the front end was wandering all over the place, This was on recap tires. We were young and dumb.
