Hot Rods Father/Son Roadsters

My son is getting his '31 Roadster ready for Deuce Days in Victoria this July. Seat upholstery, wiring and it's done...for now.
Thought I would get a few pictures of my '28 Ford Roadster along side his '31 Roadster. Yes they are both Ford Roadsters, but that is where the comparison ends. My '28 is powered by a 350 SBC (yawn) 700 R4 , S-10 rear end, (more yawning) his '31 has a built dual quad 57 Imperial 392 Hemi, backed by a M-21 4 speed and a 1st gen Bronco 9 inch! Oh yeah!
    I taught him well!

  4. Both very cool Roadsters, instead of your boy asking for the keys to your car, it could be the other way about. :D

Right On! Theres nothing to yawn about on your roadster, its still a roadster and not some luxo float on air sedan. I told my wife after a long ride in our roadster that it has a two to one milage ratio. For every 100 miles you drive in the roadster it feels like 200 in your daily driver. Just wears you out.

Is Neil gonna slobber some primer on it and run it for the summer? Shame to have it rust in the ocean air....

  15. I know he painted a few parts of the suspension and has coated the rest with Gibbs to prevent rust

The plan & bank account can't make a finished car for this summer. I have been to other shows and have seen cars in bare metal and they are well received. It's definitely not a Rat Rod and will be finished as his budget allows. Looks like he is leaning towards a non metallic Maroon.

I was more worried about rust than rat rod comments. I know my truck rusts super fast wheel I have bare metal outside even for a few hours.

  21. Well the '58 392 Hemi Gremlins have finally been solved. From low oil pressure when priming (builder left out internal oil plug) to running hot (cracked driver side head, #7 exhaust valve) having to find another head, have it machined and re***embled the '31 Roadster finally drove, not only runs cool...but looks cool.
These pics were taken early in October just before his insurance ran out. It is nice to know that come next spring it is a running, driving roadster! A custom homebuilt hood will be one of the projects this winter.
It was a real blast that late afternoon cruising in our roadsters together. I have to agree with my son:
    Roadsters are the Best!

Well, my son drove his '29 for 5 years, then sold it to build a pool in his backyard,----I still have my'32,-- 300,000 miles on 2 odometers, drove ******* down to LAR show in June & back 1100 miles, then put the top on for the "Deuce Days" at Victoria, couldn't believe 1100 cars!!--Had a great time. First off-----You have to understand his reasoning.-----His daughter(my grand daughter), was excelling in water polo at CLC college in Thousand Oaks,Ca.---& to promote her desire, he sold his '29 to build the pool. It paid off big time---She received 5 scholarships---Went to University of Alabama, graduated after 5 years as a Micro Biologist, went to UCLA research for 2 years,---Now at St. Louis,Mo. doing more research in the medical field.
I'm very proud of her accomplishments!!!------Don

  29. Totally paid off, and yes, you & your son should be proud of her accomplishments for sure! The swimming pool out ranks a '29 Roadster in this case!! Well Done!
