I am installing a fatman IFS in my 54 dodge pickup, and have to say it is a great kit, but i have a couple of concerns, 1st and biggest, with the lower control arm basically level, my upper control arm is on about a 15 degree angle, that may be exactly how its supposed to be , I dont know, also the rack boots rub the lower control arm bolts ...seems like ill be replacing alot of boots, I could shim the rack forward a bit to clear, but will that mess up the geometry, if anyone has any experience with this kit, can you give me some feedback, it would be appreciated, thansk Al
Where is it gonna be when there some weight on it like the engine and body? Stock engine and trans were about 775 lbs, so I be loading about 900 lbs on that frame and see waht you have then. I'm thinking that clearance notch above the gaiter will be pretty much used up. Fat man told you that the rubber rubbing on the contol arm hardwars was looking good?? Things that make you go HMMMMMMM!!
in the photo i have spacers in the shock to simulate ride height....they have been right on the money so far...so i am pressing on
I just installed a different M2 kit on a hudson and the boot rubbed also. The boots are tuff, i think it would take awhile to rub through, maybe a dab of grease on the boot
The spring perch looks really far outboard. and the unequal length upper and lower A arms are interesting. does the upper A hang on the spring pocket at full droop? Its an interesting setup in a few geometrical features, but over all should work nice.
To varying degrees the upper and lower control arms are always different lengths, if they were not they would scrub a pair of front tires out very quickly and be a bear to drive.
Could you replace that lower bolt with some type of an allen head bolt (like a button head bolt) to help reduce the sharp edge rubbing the boot? Not sure of the size you need, but something like this. http://www.mcmaster.com/#socket-head-cap-screws/=cn8ne7
