Fake valve covers, injection set ups, blowers, etc., is lame because you're not fooling anyone who matters. There's no currency in fooling anyone who doesn't know better. Just be proud of what you put together and what you're running.

I run a Chevy in my Olds. 99% of the people who have something to say about it don't have a car nearly as nice, or as is more likely, don't have a car at all.

In the car hobby, if something you do with your car makes you happy, screw what others think! That includes anything others want to call "fake".
If you want it and it makes you happy, go for it, and enjoy your ride.

I have a friend that has had her breasts "enhanced", her ass "Brazilian'ed" and her teeth capped and whitened. Very, very pretty!

BUT...fake FI, QC, blowers and a 3rd dangling pedal for no f'ing reason? Hard Pass.

  6. Not really faux or fake but interesting for a newer valve cover to have see through tops, these would look good on a blower motor I think.

  7. I have had two 1986 Olds Cutlass's that left the factory with 305 cu in "corporate" engines that are better known as a 305 SBC's. I have also had a 1981 Buick Regal left the factory with a 267 cu in "corporate" engine that is also better known as a SBC.

Since GM itself sold Olds and Buick vehicles with SBC engines in them, there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting Olds or Buick labelled valve covers on any SBC. There is literally NOTHING fake about them. It's like putting Corvette covers on a SBC ... what's the big deal?

Don't forget Canadian Pontiacs that came with Chevy engines, as well.

So the story I heard goes something like this here; GM was fazing out the HP crap when Smokey and the Bandit fanned the dying, gas pump beaten down flames of muscle car people and Pontiac started cranking out T/As...more cars than they had engines for. Many 77- T/As come with Pontiac W-72 400s but many others were built with Olds 403s. They also painted all of the engines Pontiac Blue... initially.

Some consumers claimed they were duped into buying Olds powered T/As as a result, and sued. Enter the new engine color GM Corporate Blue. Not as pretty as the Pontiac color but now they weren't being accused of conning someone with a "rattle can transplant". Every engine (Chevy, Olds, Ponchos) was now Blue. They also got slightly different call outs on the shaker scoop, the W-72 got one that read T/A 6.6 while the Olds and the low HP 400 got one that said 6.6 Liter. You can check this at your next cruise in and be informed! People will feel sorry for you for knowing such mundane facts and may give you money so you will leave. Bandit beer money.

Even though Corporate Blue is the correct color for restoring a W-72, 77 SE T/A, but I usually paint them Pontiac Blue out of respect for the brand.

  11. I like LS motors with sbc valve covers. There are some beautiful sbc valve covers, but LS covers are ugly

    Just letting you know
Those Valve covers will not work /clear
The older SBC intake for 6:71-8
That the cover is same size & bigger then the gasket of head ,
My BDS 1991 & Moroso 1998ish Sheet metal are close to 1/4 off ,, Hmm ,,, just a thought I have just now , the Brodix might have a different angle & taller gasket area, 1998 heads
    Then stock Gm heads

I guess I'm in the minority as I like some non stock valve covers, and I also understand why someone who wants a late LS or Hemi in their old car wants those engines to look better. I think all the late model engines are ugly and don't want one, but if I had one I'd do everything I could to take some of the ugly off it, and that includes fake valve covers.
When I built my '63 Falcon gasser with the 468 BBC engine I wanted to do something to change the look when I tilted the frontend open. I had some regular old finned Edelbrock covers at first, and later some nice M/T valve covers and liked both. But one day on a local Craigslist ad I saw someone selling some Edelbrock 409 covers that were made to fit a BBC and I immediately called. Unfortunately I was caller #2 and missed them by minutes. Seller said they were made by grafting two pairs of Edelbrock valve covers together to make them seal on a BBC head. I would have loved to see people scratching their heads when they saw what looked like an old W motor in a Falcon!

I don't have pics but a while ago I took 3 y-block valve covers and cut both ends off the extra cover to weld onto the other 2 to make a bit longer to fit over a sbc. Both the y-block and sbc had rear distributors and fooled a lot of people.. However I pointed out it was really a sbc....
