Yup. We had a barber in Clarkston that specialized in "layering". Big feller, cross between Wolfman Jack and Alex Karras. Blew into town one year, set up shop & had an instant clientele, including me. Charged a bunch & I always got that type of cut. I remember him telling me I had really "thick" hair (it was very fine & straight & still mostly blond). Truth is, he was just a good salesman and hit my vanity vein dead center. I don't recall if his favorite tool was a straight razor. What I do remember is I was trying to get away from my greaser look & VO-5 & Brylcreem to something more sophisticated on account I had my eye on the boss's daughter. Before he came along, all we had is Tink Ronk's Barbershop, which also doubled as the village jail (had door & bars across an 8 x 8 room - cozy place as I recall). Tink was also Fire Chief, and in later years, Twp supervisor. When he died, it was the biggest funeral in recent memory. Tink wore a buzz-cut & I have to only hope he was a better Fire Chief than he was a barber. Nice guy though, I mean that. I'm posting a link to a story about Tink Ronk from Google Books. https://books.google.com/books?id=4mesCQAAQBAJ&pg=PA126&lpg=PA126&dq=tink+ronk+barber+shop&source=bl&ots=UIlayQxm-V&sig=rGfW_ilHn8xGEkRuP1HQ61HWV2c&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjNl7TK3-XTAhWIWSYKHfh9CScQ6AEIMzAC#v=onepage&q=tink ronk barber shop&f=false Hope it works. Anyway, that ford firetruck? it was still stored in the lower level of the barber shop in the mid 80's. I actually worked on it gratis for the Vil lage a few times back then.
