What's your top favorites for a custom, or hot rod for that matter, prior to 1957 or so, you didn't have much choice in the wheel department if you didn't want them made of steel, so it was either plain, caps and/or rings, or full wheelcovers... Which ones are your favorites...
The best 4 from back then have already been mentioned. I used '55 Buick's with the plastic center center covered with a chrome bullet from Pep Boys on my '52 Ford convert.
if I ever go with hubcaps and whitewalls on my 49 chevy I'll do 58 or so Vette caps. kind of HOT ROD and Custom at the same time.
No, you are incorrect sir. The only caps worthy of discussion are 53-55 Fiesta's or, 56 Starfire's...........
55,56,57,58,59,60, Dodge Lancers verious designs. The '59 Dodge non-fliper with the bullet center is pretty cool. 1957,58,59 Plymouth Points 54,55,56 Olds Fiestas and 55,56 Olds standard hub caps.
I bought a set of 54 caddilacs a few years back, planned to use them to trade on. I put them on my 51 Chevy and liked them, so thats whats on it now.
What about wire wheel covers such as Lyon's? I love the wire wheel caps that were produced before 1935 that produce the look of a solid steel wheel and dog dish cap.
'51-'52 Plymouth with 3 1/2" bullet. Smooth and ***y. I never realized how many customs actually ran them. ******Knuckles
Is there a directory or site that lists wheelcovers/hubcaps and shows years and marques? I have two that are in storage and am curious what they'd be? Thanks in advance.
