so from what I have been able to find on this I think I should be able to make the adaptor myself

I would need to have a bellhousing from a cruise-o-matic and cut off the end of it, from my understanding all I have to do at this point is make sure that what I cut off the cruise-o-matic is the same depth as what I cut off of the AOD bellhousing so it maintains its proper input shaft depth.

am I waaay over simplifying this?

I cant see where that is worth $800, I gotta tig and can weld aluminum fo free.

You need an adaptor (that also acts as a spacer) to bolt the Cruiso-O bellhousing to the pump face of the AOD. You will also have to have a custom torque convertor made. There are many reasons for why I paid for one, but if you have the time and ambition it is something you could do. Definitely Not simple, but doable.

Funny thing I'm thinking of using one of the COM bells for a grinding stand maybe I should rethink that and use a cast iron one instead.

What about a C6 w a gear vender ? Iv seen used ones at swap meets.....You would have no electronics to deal with that way.

Or better yet a 5 speed

I would imagine that a c6 with a gear vender would be a bit on the pricey side wouldnt it?

I dont know what the resale is but I seem to remember that new they are quite expensive.

I would LOVE to put a manual in it but once again I have financial barriers...

that said though, $300 for an AOD, $800 for the adapter, and probably another couple hundered in unforseen stuff, I could probably have a t-5 set up for that much...

anyone know who makes a t-5 to fe adapter?

FrozenMerc, did your adapter come with the torque converter or was that on top of the adapter?

Quicktime makes an FE to Tremec TKO bellhousing. You do not want to put a T5 behind an FE unless you are in a hurry to dump the guts out onto the highway. A T5 simply will not live with that much torque. You got to go with the TKO.

In the pic, you can see the adaptor, it is the grey steel plate that goes between the bellhousing and the case of the AOD.

you may just want to play with gears and tire size man. I was in the same shoes as you, researching OD for FE's. Thats alot of money to front, that could pay for alot of gas.

I stayed with my c-6 and put some taller tires on my truck.

    Howdy FrozenMerc.

I just stumbled onto this thread from curiousity, but it got my wheels turning. Does that adaptor that I see in the picts bolt onto the bolt holes for the pump ***embly? It's O/T here, but I have been scouting a way to do an AOD against a 200 six, and hadn't even thought about the this method.

Yep, it bolts to the pump. However, are you sure you want to run a 0.67 OD with a 200 six? That might be a bit steep unless you run like 4.30 gears or so.

Nope I'm thinking it would be exactly where I want to be for mid threes. Trafic out side of town around here moves anywhere from 85 95 on the freeways, and I want to build something to travel. Accelleration isn't the deal here as much as milage, 'cause this one is actually going to be the girlfriends daily, and nobody needs a cute asian female with a quick car!

Cool, Mid 3's will defiantly give you a good cruiser as long as you are not concerned about getting beat by a Prius coming down an on ramp. That quip about the girlfriend is one of the funniest things I have read today, bravo.
