I dont think you can do this already but it would be nice to be able to subscribe to get emails whenever theres a new thread posted in a social group. currently they rely on people to check back, which if people forget, means the group kinda dies as threads go unanswered for a long time, makes people not want to post. This may help breath a bit of life back into em.

    Guess what I found!

Go to the opening page for a specific Social Group. Scroll down to where it says "Social Group Discussions" and look to the right. There's a Search Discussions window and just to the right of that it says "Group Tools". Click that and one of your choices is "Subscribe to this Group". I didn't know that was there! I've subscribed to a group and we'll see how it works. Thanks for making me go hunt for it.

Here's another workaround you might try. In Internet Explorer, go to the desired Social Group (or any page that you desire for that matter) and drag your cursor to the top of the window to the address bar (http://www.jalopy....). To the left of the address is the site icon, the red square with a white star. Left-click and hold your mouse ****on on it and drag this icon onto your desktop and release it to create a desktop shortcut to the webpage. Then just double click on the desktop shortcut, even if you don't have a browser window open, to go directly to that webpage. :D

Just tried this with Mozilla Firefox as well and it works in the same way. Except it seems to open the page in Windows Explorer, probably if you have that set as your default browser.

    I didnt know that either.
Thats close but doesnt have the option for instant email notification, only daily or weekly. so youre only going to get emails everyday saying zero new posts.
would be nice to see instant added. (maybe a pm to Ryan would help)

i usualy check daily but the problem is most people dont & thats why they get quiet. I like the groups, just wish more people would remember theyre members.

I asked some similar questions a while back: POSTED HERE

Without a peep, but I still think that some sort of notification/moderation would be pretty cool. I just did the subscribe thing to a few of groups I belong to as well as my own. Will see how this works out.

Just reread your response and something didn't seem right. I didn't think subscribing to a "Group" would notify you when no new "Discussions" were posted to the "Group".

Then I scrolled down into a Group and clicked on a specific Discussion. Doing that I noticed a "Discussion Tools" drop down menu. One of the options is "Subscribe to this Discussion" with a choice of "No" or "Instant" email notification!

Oddly, subscribing to a "Group" offers you a choice of "No, Daily or Weekly email notification". This is like an Easter Egg Hunt. What other features are hidden away on this site?

Thats all of them. you can get instant emails for new posts within threads.
you can get daily emails telling you new discussions started.
but you cant get instant emails for new discussions started. that options lacking.
most people who are members of groups have probably forgot about them.

so it could do with A instant email notification added & B a bit of publicity, a reminder for people to use the groups.

I havent been getting any new post alerts at all recently to any of the threads im subscribed to. dunno if its me or the forum.
