Yeah, the front end of the 40s is just beautiful. I think Moriarty has a beauty, as does Norris McCarty, his is one of my favorite hamb cars.

And I don't doubt it drives better than the 49-51, my 51 is fun to drive, but I wouldn't say it handles well. Comparatively my dd f150 pickup feels like driving a F1 car compared to the shoebox....

The car indeed seems like a good deal. Someone jump on that ****er!

I love my shoebox as well, but from a driver's experience I've always thought they were lacking - terrible steering box, under braked, spongy suspension, and under powered.

I agree completely, 40 fords are wonderful cars. I can't possibly wipe the silly grin off my face when driving mine. There ought to be a severe penalty to anyone who would convert one to IFS......

Henry and the boys nailed it with the 40 Ford, standard or deluxe. Also the 40/41 pickup. Both are G.O.A.T.'s

Looks like a screaming deal, but I would have to sell my 41 Pickup to afford it

Agree-having built and played with maybe 15 40's over the years, they are my all time favorite.
As Moriarty said, no need for an independent front end. Currently playing with another one. Stocker with a Columbia and only mods thus far are dropped axle, 15's , and dual exhaust. Drives sweet.

I really want another one, but a nicer one than I built. I wish I could pull the trigger on the maroon one because the paint and interior are already done.

Agree 100%. I love my 39 standard Tudor. It’s the best driving old car I have had short of 60s stuff. It’s big enough for the whole family, and as others have said, in my opinion 39 40 Ford’s are perfect as Henry made them. 8340F443-CCD7-40D6-89B6-627159FE2F36.jpeg

I think that car is a smokin deal. I'm just not in the position,(too many cars) or I would be on that. Lippy

Same, Oregon is far. I'd have to shuffle some cash around, but if it were closer, I'd probably be too busy sweet talking my wife to type this right now. She's aware another car is on the horizon, but she's pushing hard for a 60s mustang, her mom had one, so she wants one to drive. She does NOT like the cars we like, lol. Other than that she's perfect.

Hard for me to put aside my p***ion for these cars, and allow the realistic current trends/times/pricing in.
That said, the price is fair, not great..nice car for the right buyer.

Man, I must be doing something wrong. My 36 drives like a buckboard wagon. Oklahoma roads are not very forgiving...

Nice car though. I was oogling it this morning

My 40 drove pretty good, but I figured out one day most of the suspension travel was in the springy stock front seat...

My friend Joe who I worked with for many years has 4 40's from here--3 coupes and a sedan. He drives one daily and his OT car just sits. Says they drive/ride just fine--all axle cars with 327's

My '40 rides great also. Dropped axle in the front, reversed eye spring in the rear, tube shocks. It will bottom out in the rear on a big bump but otherwise rides like a cloud.

All have the same setup-dropped axle-stock front spring with some leaves removed, tube shocks. Rear is parallel leaves with an 8" rear. Build em all the same-have done maybe 14-15. Current one I just got is a stocker with a flathead, Columbia etc etc-low mileage car(47K mile car restored a few years ago). Just has dropped axle tube shocks and I just redid front spring--rides and drives great. The one in my Avatar drove and rode very nice as well-wife drove it a lot.

I think mine has a geometric issue. Mixing and matching parts. I think the spring may be too long. It tracks super straight and smooth until there is a imperfection in the road and then hold on to your teeth.

  26. I've had 2 '40s and now have a '41 truck. All were basically stock suspension and they all drive very well. My current '41 doesn't have a single squeak or rattle, tracks straight, and is comfortable on bumpy roads with the skinny Firestone bias ply tires. It is amazing to me that I can drive an 80 year old truck at modern highway speeds in comfort (with the aid of the original Columbia). From my experience the technology from the era works great - but all 3 of mine were good mechanical condition.

I did add disc brakes as I drive it regularly in traffic. That, and the reverse eye spring, are the only modifications from stock.

(edit) - I almost forgot: I did upgrade the front sway bar and added a rear one, too - but I honestly can't tell the difference in handling from before.

That sedan in the OP looks like a really good deal, too -

I'm just thinking that 40 standard sedans don't get the love that a 40 Deluxe gets.
A buddy of mine has had this one for sale for a year and it is a solid car with a 351 and matching automatic. Pretty much an old school car That while it won't win many shows, won't be shipped off to the cheap seats either.
Last I heard he was asking 17,500 for it and it is an honest jump in and drive home car.
He took it on trade for a 32 Ford RP that was a seriously nice car but a hard one to sell in this area. He stil had it the last I knew.

That’s a case of finding the right *** for the seat. Just my opinion, but flames on that car don’t work.

I've had a 49 and a 50 Ford, and 4 forty fords all low mileage except the 40 sedan. The 50 was a 43K miles car and it rode and stopped great but it didn't steer easily as a 40 Ford does. My last 40 is like driving a new 40 car, perfect in every way except I think it needs the rear shocks rebuilt which is on the game plan. So that sedan is definitely a good car to buy.

Cars of my dreams, 39 and 40 Fords. Not an ugly one in the bunch from the factory, but have seen some screwed up attempts at chops and customs that missed the mark. But, sadly, above my pay grade unless I win a lottery or my rich Uncle gets out of the poor house. That's why I have my Lincoln, I can see some of the same lines in the body design, some of the same flow from certain angles. Never driven a 39 or 40, but can attest that the basic suspension design works fine on my 47 Linc.
