Congrats!! I also have watched this build throughout. You the MAN! Now You can live hapilly ever after. Whats next??? FEDER
i"ll never forget my first snap in my altered. it was one of my licensing p***es. my old man tells me..."just stage the thing, let the light drop and let it out when you're comfortable"...I can do that... so i do my burnout, stage the car, set the trans brake, floor the throttle....Amber Flash...dump the trans ****on and hold on....nothing like an 8000 rpm dump. i didn't think that little thing would pull so hard....maybe a 1.25 60 ft...it was working on my body so badly that i could hear myself grunting and groaning like i was giving birth. and i'm doing all this at palmdale in the dark....(if you ever raced there you know...) so i let it out at half track and coast out. nothing but the sound of idle and silence. my ribs were all wrenched up and cramped like i was in a boxing match. they hurt for a week. man that was neat. i'll never forget it. the best part though is when you learn how to start breathing during a p***. shift into high gear and enjoy the ride. you get to start watching the gauges and the tires and the stands and the guy in the other lane and what the car is doing and all that good stuff. at some point you'll actually begin to have a stream of thought...like, "man that thing launched hard, okay 6, 6500, 6800...and....shift....hey, look at that bird...oh ****, i hope i turned off the stove before i left the house, i could really go for pork chops tonight....oh, ****....get the parachute out dummy.....that was fun... man...i gotta get my car back on the track.
Way to go Jacin! As you sneak up on the fuel curve you will pick up a bunch of HP when you get on the "sweet spot". Good luck from Greg n Carol.
Short answer: YES Long Answer: It's really funny. I've had several people tell me I'm nuts to strap myself in this thing - (I even once thought that of others- myself) but after having built this thing piece by piece I don't give it a second thought. Just the other day a friend of mine commented to my buddy (talking about me - in a nice way) his comment was something to the effect that, "with as meticulous as he is (me) I can't believe he didn't install a NUTPLATE on the differential housing" something like that. I've had several people at the drags tell me the same thing - I pretty much tell them the same thing - "Heck I'm done having kids anyways!" ha ha ha. But serioulsy - I bought the best parts I could get my hot little hands on - I welded the housing - as far as narrowing it and adding the rear brace across it. I ***embled it - checked and rechecked every nut and bolt in there. Except for the housing itself everything was new - all new bearings, bolts pieces parts, axles, etc etc and checked it everywhich way I know how. So in my head - it's DONE - I don't give it a thought unless it's removing the filler cap just to check the wear pattern. Once you sit in the car - the feeling is awesome - nearly indescribeable. Dotting the "I's" and crossing the "T's" was done earlier and doesn't enter into the equation. maybe that's just because I am so NEW to the whole experience - I dunno. "Old hands" used to try and tell me what I was in for - while they did their best - none of them did it justice - It was BETTER than they all described. But what else would you expect a FED newbie to say???
I'm really happy for ya. I remember the first time I got up the nerve to ask someone if I could sit in their car,I sat down in it and it just felt right. Having owned and driven and maintained an injected "Digger" for 6 years it is one of the few cars I've been the caretaker of that I genuinely regret letting go to a new home. I miss it immensly. Best wishes to ya and your new birthed love affair. Keep us posted on your progress.
