I moved to Tucson in 75. No regrets! Don't let the temperature numbers scare you. In Illinois I remember what 90 degrees and 90 percent felt like! Trust me, you will love 110 and dry. It's like standing in front of an open oven.....you don't sweat.

Besides that, I also remember what 20+ below feels like! This is much better. Think of it as 9 months of great weather, and three months of doing outdoor things after sundown.....like racing and car shows.

Phoenix is both warmer and more humid, not to mention the traffic, but the north end of the state is higher altitude, and has seasonal weather like back home, so look at the town rather than the whole state.

Not much industry here, compared to other areas, at least when I lived back there. Tucson has a large aircraft industry, and Ratheon has a large missile plant here. We also have mining in the area. I worked as a machinist when I moved here. From there I went to heavy equipment and railroad, then to custom paint. In a town of about a million there are lots of businesses of different kinds.

Just don't wait until you are too old to see over the streering wheel. We already have too many retirees! :)

P.S. You will love the solid old car bodies here! I remember my parents had a new Buick in '62 that rusted out in 2 years! Out here, if it's rusty, it came from somewhere else!

I went the other way, after 40 years in the desert I moved north, You can have the "dry heat" . Also its real hard to drink sand, and eat brush or those wormy things they call rabbits there. Raiilesnake wasn't to bad but it takes a whole bunch of em to make a meal. But to each his own I am glad for ya if your happy.

  4. Oh yaaah, and dontcha know when dat snow she melt up dere in yoooperland, mebbe it'll erode some "old iron" - forgotten 4 wheeled relics eh!

But springtime is a great time to go wandering around up there, y'know right between da time da snow melts and da skeeters drive ya out of da woods, what's that - about 5 minutes? Great time to drive the backroads looking around for old cars that are hidden most of the year by either foilage or snow. Promise me a pastie, a 6 pack of Leinies and some Sayklly's & I'll be there in 8 hours to help ya look! I'd rather drive 8 north than 8 south. I've seen a lot of old iron up in da U.P. and it's a great place, year round. And yah, I know, I won't forget to go home!

Let me also suggest North Texas. 8 months of nice weather... Dallas has good opportunities for work. Lot's of car/motorcyle guys and events.. Property is reasonable. Also Southeast Missouri- I am trying hard to find work in the Dallas area myself as I have lost my job in Western rainy cold suckass Washington!

CA is great in many ways, but the weather really is horrible no matter what anyone says because it gives you the cancer and respiratory illness like crazy.
Natural surroundings? concrete and rivers full of poo that keep you out of the ocean after it rains or you could get hepatitis or some strange infection.

All that glitters is not gold.
I know all of CA is not LA, there are nice places also.

I was surfing in LA after the rain recently and had to make some quick trips to the toilet for a couple of days afterwards from the poo water.
I surfed in Wilmington, NC yesterday in the rain, I feel great.
Getting poisoned, infections, and sick from the natural beauty around you really blows.

    Good luck

You could move to Rexburg, Idaho. We have 3 lovely seasons LAST WINTER, THIS WINTER, and NEXT WINTER.

  12. I've made my decision! It's Prescott, AZ and its exactly what I described above - mild temps, 4 season weather, dry, no bugs, 3400' elevation, 5 hours from LA, 1 1/2 hours from Phoenix, and I already know a great bunch of Hot Rodders and Deuce guys that live there. I've been down there twice last last year and love it. I took an early retirement offer Nov. 1st and so I am selling my house and getting ready to move. As soon as that happens we will be on our way down there to build a new one in the same neighborhood as my friends.:D

  13. I love Savannah!!! I was there for a month on a military exercise, sevceral years ago, and had a friggin' great time! It was near St Patrick's day when I was there, and the Savannah celebration is bigger than ALL except Chicago and NYC! The history of the area is simply incredible. Laid-back lifestyle, beautiful homes, convenient to so many other destinations...hell, what's not to like!
