Once more, before the weekend is over, I thought I'd mention Olfart. I called him this evening and he's sounding much better than he did on Friday. A lot of you heard about his son that hung himself and before the thread was pulled, in just a few short hours, 138 people had sent condolences on the HAMB. That's awesome! When I talked to him tonight, he said that the funeral arrangements haven't been made yet. He is trying to come up with half of the money to give his son a decent burial and living on $900 a month disability, there's not a lot of extra. As he put it tonight, there's always a lot of month left after the money. If anyone would like to help him out with burying his son, there's a definite need there. If you feel led to help him out, his address is

    Fred Barnett
    5241 Sydney St.
    Port Orange, Fl 32127

    His phone no. is 386-788-4874

I know that it'll be hard during these times to send very much, but I'm sure every dollar would make a difference. I've never met him in person, only on the phone and thru the HAMB, but he's they guy that's always offering to let HAMBers stay at his place for free the week of the Turkey Rod Run. That tells me quite a bit about the size of his heart.
    Blessings,

I did have the pleasure of meeting him a couple of years ago and you're right he is a great guy. My heart certainly was sadden when I read the news about his son. Sure wish I had something to auction to help with the cause. I'll get something out to him in the morning though. Thanks for the update on his situation.

I just got done posting a thread about how car guys survive economic crisis, one of the things I did not mention is how the community comes together to help when needed, where theres a will, theres a way. Can you get a local bank to set up a donation account? I'm in to help out.

It's very expensive to bury someone these days. More than you would think.

  18. Thank you everyone for getting behind me on this.I spoke to the funeral home & my ex in her infinite wisdom(and drug induced state) gave my sons body to the U of Mass. medical school even tho she knew that I was trying to raise money.
I was only married to her for 3 years yet it seems that she is still hurting me in any way she can.According to the f/h ,it only takes one parents signature to make this happen.
I will return everyones money asap. Thanx again Oldfart

Oldfart, keep the check I sent, please. Like skwurl said on the Chapel, use it to do something nice for yourself. God Bless, brother!

  23. I hate sounding like a Doubting Thomas here but anywhere but the H.A.M.B. I would call this a pretty good Scam. Especially since most of the us have no way to verify this really happened. One way to put my Doubts to rest would be to post a copy of the Obit along with this request for financial support.

The guy said he would refund everyone's money. Would a scammer do something like that? Besides, he didn't start this thread, it came from the guys in the HAMB Chapel. He never asked us for any money.

EXCEPT he is not asking for financial support, his pal did AND Fred just posted that there will NOT be a funeral and the body has been donated.

I understand being careful in the days of global scams, but I assure you this is genuine. It is a mute point anyway. He's asked everyone not to send money.
