On a 56 lower front fender, what kind of nut is in the cowl right in front of the rocker? Mine are gone and I haven’t found them in the parts book. I’m replacing the rockers and now’s the time to replace them.

The inner of the fender splash. kinda under the master cylinder, has those clip nuts 5/16" course and the cap screws have a built in shoulder with no locks. They slide over a hole and have a reciever nut attached on my 56. Outside edge of it to the fender edge probably has the same thing. good luck..

On the “good “ side there is only a round hole. I’m wondering if it’s a caged nut that welds to the inside. I don’t see how a clip nut would attach.

Could be on the welded nuts. The body shop pun on my front fenders after painting so I'm not sure on those. The inner fender has the clip nuts on the firewall, at least for 3 of them.

I will have to look back through my notes, or just visit the garage when I get back, but as I recall the two bolts in that location - one goes through a "J" nut that is secured to the sheet metal "flap" that attaches to the extended firewall (kind of like a mud guard), and the second bolt does indeed go through a hole in the bottom of the rocker panel that is a weld nut. Since your replacing the rockers, I would just weld a nut to the inside before you weld the rocker panel to the body. 5/16-18 right?

5/16 co**** or fine will work, just have to use a matching bolt. I was a little worried that the nut needed to have some wiggle room, but I’ll probably tack weld a nut on a small plate and then weld that to the body.
    Thanks all!
