Need help installing mine.Clamps I have dont work.Anybody have pics of how they mounted theirs? Thinking of self-tapping screws... Thanks in advance
I see that you have a '53 Chevy. Helps to know that kind of stuff. I don't have a Chevym but help will come along soon. One thing's for sure, don't use screws to attach your skirts. That's just screwy.
I have a 60 BelAir.How do you attach the fender skirts?Clamps that I have didnt seem to hold the fender in place? Thanx
Here are the instruction for installing skirts on a 53-54 Chevy. Hard to read but better than nothing.
i may have to revisit this thread myself , i have a pristine set of skirts for my shoebox but unlike most HAMB'rs with the midas touch , i myself have the feces touch!
do have the clips? like these? http://www.lategreatchevy.com/chevy-fender-skirt-hardware-set-1955-1964.html?dept_id=1431 here's some other stuff i found: http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/187163/ i know it's not what you really wanted but every little bit helps.right?
Yes,have those clamps.I also read that thread awhile back.I glued on my weatherstripping-1 less thing to deal with
Those instructions are for installing stainless steel extension trim on 53/54 Chevys. Fender skirts have a middle rod mounted on the inside of the skirt that "hooks" on the inside body fender lip via tension. Looks like a big "L" with a hook on the end that connects on the lip. The clamps go at the ends of the fender skirt and clamps to the fender lip to help align the bottom part of the skirt with the body.
I have the same clamps on the skirts for my '58 chevy.....easy to install and hold the skirt just fine......
OH NO Mr. Bill, not screws! I remember a guy years ago had a '52 Chev pickup, wanted skirts. We found him a real nice pair, the type that overlap. Came to next cruise night and had attached them with 1/4 by 1 hex head self tapping screws OMG. He was real proud of himself that he had done it too. We all just walked away.
I might be that guy's distant cousin lol,I can get the "L"to grab. But I think I need extra on the top to ensure they wont fall off-cant get clamps to work correctly either
basically it's just the "L" brackets and clamps. On the skirts for my truck, instead of clamps ,it has some "J" brackets and there was enought "meat" on the inner fender lip for me to drill a hole so that the "J" bracket can into the hole rather than just hook onto the fender lip which makes the skirt more secured. Maybe you can check the inner fender lip on your Chevy to see if you can drill a hole for the clamp screw or just replace the clamp with a bolt and wingnut.
these are the correct clamps. click on the link http://www.lategreatchevy.com/chevy...e-set-1955-1964.html?crosssell=Product_Viewed
I have those. When I tighten them they slip off.Plus that "bolt"doesnt have much to bite onto.Thats why I asked for pics of installed.
