Hello everyone, My name is Ron, been lurking for quite some time and have fiqured out that this would be the place to get some information that could save me both time and money on my build. My project is a 1923 C-Cab with full 28-29 running boards. Everything is going as planned except knowing what really works best with the fenders as far as track width, wheel offsets and tire sizes. If anyone with a fendered model A could post a picture of their ride and the specs I would truly apreciate it.......ruggs
Your adding fenders from a totaly different model to that car. It's going to be custom fitted not buy and bolt on. Looks cool and it's a great idea though. I wanted to build a C cab hot rod once. Good luck! and welcome!
I think my front axle is 46" kingpin to kingpin superbell .the outside to outside measurement on my front tires is 63 1/2". The tires and wheels are 185/75/14 on 14x6 and 255/70/15 on 15x8.5 on the rear.I can't rember but i think the rear is around 56" wide. http://i323.photobucket.com/albums/nn476/wingedexpress1/P3150050.jpg
You'll likely want the fender to mount to the frame rail in a "standard" format. I'd look for a '28-'29 light bar and inner front fender mounts, the cast mounts are better than the stamped steel ones. And you can bend them to the best location to pickup the outer fender carriage bolts. Of course to center the fender in-side-view to match the wheel/axle. This location can be matched by using A frame horns and locating them to suit. Note in Winged express's pickup. If you are able to locate the axle "approx" beneath the radiator, then the fender and frame horn location will work out OK. The light bar would be ~ 1/2" ahead of the shell.(on a typ Ford model A)
For everyones infomation the fenders , slash shields and running boards are all at original model A deminsions. Also the body is gl*** and called a 23....can't afford an all metal one.....ruggs
Get you a set of fibergl*** ones, block them up to where you want them to set, fibergl*** in the difference.
First thing I'd do is buy a pair of splash aprons, that way you can clamp the fenders to something and get a idea of how things look.
All the parts are in the shop, just not in the photo. All of the details of the fenders etc are already worked out using original type brackets. I am just trying to find the track width and wheel ofset that works best. here is a photoshop of what it should look like....ruggs
