Hot Rods Fenderless 40's cars that look right

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Toqwik, Feb 24, 2017.

  1. That flamed tub is a beautifully crafted car and I'm sure I'd smile like a jackass eatin thistles if I were behind the wheel. But- it looks like one of those Volkswagen "VolksRods" where they take the fenders off a car that was clearly designed with the fenders..
Sorry big man, you, like I need a full sized car or some serious ergonomic engineering.

I think any fenderless cars after 1934 look like Rosie O'donnells ass.

I agree with your guys, a 40 needs fenders but here's one that was at Kalamazoo for several years. 2006_0212Image0007.JPG

In my 75 years of life I have yet to see one but then I've never seen a sasquatch either.

I'm really only seeing cars built in the 30s used as examples here. I just don't see anything from the mid 30s on that would really work for no fenders. You might find one or two exceptions but doubt it. Best of luck with your search.

IMO, This view of this car isn't totally horrible, but the '36 Ford tail-lights are TOTALLY JARRING, why the hell he would do that escapes me. You have a nice flowing curve running arpound the tailpan and up the sides of the car, with a nice radius up to the decklid, and a big fucking wart in the middle. Makes it look like a farm implement with big meats on the back. If he frenched something discreet into the roll pan below the character line, it would look 100% better. But hey, that's just me.

I cant find a pic of it right now, but I have always liked Pauls mopar coupe, but its the exception that proves the rule. Besides, a tunnel ram BBC makes up for a multitude of sins in my books!:D

There isn't a man alive under 350 lbs that couldn't fit in a 33 or 34 coupe if it's built right. Mines not channeled but chopped and coulda been built so I couldn't touch the pedals if I wanted. To me they look great with or without fenders. Dealing with the over inflated bullshit price tag to put one together is a different story. Cars after 34 are difficult to pull off fenderless but I've seen it.

Also as an alternative something like a 36 with the fenders still on it with a big nailhead and slicks just a streat bruiser is a serious look too. Just sayin.

What about rear fenders and no fronts? Then it'd only be half bad.

  24. When I was in high school, my pal and I bought a '49 Lincoln with a smashed front end. Not a lot of them in junk yards, so we just pulled all the front sheet metal, braced the radiator and drove it that way until we could find parts. Not exactly a '32 high boy, but hey, we were kids and we were cool.

Or for those special occasions, when full-on, no holds barred bad-assery is required...:D

Lots of stock cars 36 and later with fenderless application just hard to pull off a decent street car look and really why would you want to? Seen some that turn out OK just not a good look for it.

Found a pic of Pauls coupe, the tunnel ram BBC effectively distracts me from the grill shell and headlights, there was a LOT done to the body on this car too, sectioned, bobbed ass end, raised wheelwheels. I like it, but fact is, the front end is still pretty awkward looking. It definately helps to have a lot of motor, so no-one is tempted to look at the front end too long.

I'm with the others, I say you have 2 choices. Fenderless, live with a small car. Don't want to be cramped, live with fenders. Maybe a few later 30's might can pull it off, I kinda understand the old oval track modified look but 40's? Never seen one that works for me.
A friend of mine just finished a 38 Chevy sedan delivery, had someone out of town build it for him. When it showed up I was speechless, no fenders. Now it's his car, his choice and he's proud of it and that's cool but I just can't go there, it's just wrong in my book.
