Anyone ever make a 40's car look good without fenders or front end? Love to have an A coupe, but just can't fit in one comfortably. Pics are ok too !!!!
some rides dont look right without the fenders its just hard to pull it off , well i have never seen one 35 or newer i liked .. my 2cts
Paul here on the HAMB (tech editor) built a post '35 without fenders that was a killer looking car. Had a BBC with exposed engine. Maybe he will see this thread and post some pictures. Frank
For me fat fenders are a feature of this period of automotive design, complimenting and accentuating the the lines.
I actually saw a 49-50 chevy driving down the street with no front fenders or hood. it had headlights on it so it wasn't just a shakedown run around the block... not sure what the guy was thinking or why they did it, but it did not look good.
i have only ever seen a hand full of post 1935 cars that look good with out fenders and most of them where cut more ways then could be counted.
I've posted this one before from several years ago (I used to see it at Back to the 50's every year but not recently). It's hardly traditional, but kinda cool IMHO. Kindof a modern interpretation of an early modified. There's not much 40 left to this one.
No !!! again. They just don't look right ta' me...but folks keep trying...none of 'em have worked for me yet.
veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery rarely one turns up but there usaly mid to late 30s cars not 40s, i.e. pauls previous mentioned couple and the one Zibo did a while back. if your doing a 40s car just do a 40s car.
I've seen a 37 Coupe that rocked fenderless, and 2 different sedans 35ish (one here on the HAMB) that both were wicked looking. But it takes a good eye and some major skill to pull it off.
Exactly! Whats wrong with fenders? Anything post '34 without fenders looks like DOG DICK. This subject is brought up from time to time and there are certain hambers who try to defend the fenderless, but there ain't no way around it. Squint your eyes at 'em real tight, draw fancy photoshop pictures, pretend they're cool, whatever. At the end of the day, they just don't look good without fenders!!!
I have seen some look real cool!! But, Oh yeah they were zooming around a dirt circle track!! Its your car ***Do it your way****-Sololobo
I'd like to throw my $0.02 in here. Fenderless '40 would be a problem, but I'm not too sure about the '35 or younger rule. Here's a picture of a VERY nice fenderless '36 Chevy. That's a cool looking car! The car I'm working on is a '36 Olds coupe. I don't have the fenders and I don't think the car needs them. I do have a grille shell from a '34 Hudson that's going to look cool mounted out front.
Wasnt there a nice fenderless 40 at GNRS? It was gold as I recall. Looked SICK. But generally, yeah, dont do it is my slant on this one...
My mind could be off (actually I know it is), but does'nt Don Garlits have one in his museum? Something he had since he was younger? I seem to recall a 40 Ford Coupe without its front end on it.
