History Fenders on a hot rod, why not? Stand up, proud

I like 'em both ways but without rather than plastic ones.

 

I believe Pennsylvania had a fender law up until just a few years ago.

 

In the 1970's Pa was brutal about it, I used to get hasseled for my bobbed rears and cut down '34 Terraplane fronts. In the 1980's ,I pulled the fronts, said screw it and ran illegal. In the 1990's , I put on '36 spare cutdowns,and got legal again. In the 2000's; they changed the law...by now I just like the look.

 

I had fenders on my old Model A pickup back in the early 70's. HRP

 

That's the best looking RPU I've ever seen. It's absolutely perfect!

 

Here is my brother in laws 34 Dodge project we are currently working on. She is going to be running the full factory steel fenders. Brakes are finally all fixed now on to the drive train.

Not sure what he plans for paint.

One for each occasion....

A full fendered '30 coupe and a '34 sedan highboy.

 

i love the look of the front fenders almost or as high as the hood/grill shell. on that car the rears don't look right because the back is too short so i can see why you didn't do it.

 

I could hang a spare off the back and maybe balance that out a bit more.

But I like the front fenders more than the back fenders too.



Some parts about it are cool, but it takes the overall look of the car in a totally different direction.

yes, i didn't think of that, a spare or trunk would make it look good....but i like it without fenders too.

29 Dodge Coupe, Decided to go with fenders last year, Found original front fenders on E-bay, Had the original rears which needed lots of work!!
I also am dealing with issues with mounting fender due to the 3" channel and golf club door has to be cut down.
I Figured out a way to mount rear fenders up the 3" need due to the channel. will post later.

Front fenders only...not exactly sure why the front wheel doesn't look right. Camera angle possibly? Lends credibility to the statement that it's hard to get them mounted correctly.

 

Wow, I really like that! Maybe a '32 style gas tank on the rear to eat up the fender length gap, or one of those Packard looking luggage racks (I'm not much for a spare tire on the back).

I can understand the desire to go fenderless, my current roadster is, but damn, that does have some nice lines with the fenders on.

 

Im running fenders on my 34 truck. Soon as i get a frame for it ill be starting on it. But still collecting parts for it. I see allot of fenderless hotrods they are cool to IMO im a fender guy. Especially on trucks

I went with fenders on my last build. I think 28-9 A cars look better fendered.

exactly. You cant look at parts in isolation if you want something thats cohesive and makes sense. Cycle fenders on your car would work, because they fit with the theme, the basic idea. These do not.

I read everything about your two tudor's, both The Survivor and The Reborn. I really likes them both in there own great style!

I was actualy looking for pictures of some newly(ish) build roadster and coupés with cycle fenders and/or nerf bars. But god dang, there are so many cool, awesome and beautiful with fenders out there!
Please keep adding!!

If I ever find a Model A, that I can afford I'm gonna build me one with fenders and nerf bars. Because thats the only way it's gonna be legit over here. Denmark is close to NHRA: No Hot Rods Allowed! Not all true, but about 95%.

 

How about either way?

 

In the late fifties and early sixties in California the cops were brutal on fenderless cars. I tried running my 33 and my A without fenders and never made it more than a few days before I was busted. I was looking at a copy of Andy Southard's book that has pictures of rods from the sixties. Of particular interest was a picture of the Bay Area and LA Roadsters, on a rod run. Almost all the cars were full rendered. Some of us would pull the fenders for a few days but they always went back on when the pigs came down on us, which they did with great frequency. Here is my roadster last year.

 

I agree. When I first saw this car at Motorex in Sydney a couple of years ago I thought it was the best car at the show.

 

I like fenders.........

I like fenders on mine... Usually I'm a fan of no fenders, but on this one I think it needs them for the desired look

 

often wondered about this; what does the weight have to do with runnin fenders or not?
