I have an extra hood that is a 2" cowl, but not a big fan of how it looks on my car. The factory hood looks a little more cl***y to me. I'm using a 3" drop base air cleaner now and still don't have much space. After another test fit last night, I think the collector will clear the z bar. The #1 tube sweeps up high and clears the steering box and everything. It's the #3 tube that may need dented to modified. I'm thinking if anything needs cut and modified I can have this one re-coated. Hey man, thanks for all the advice and everything. I'll keep you guys posted with the progress on the front end lift spacers these headers. Should turn out looking sharp.

Jim, you described a slip fir tube. Would you just cut the flange and tube and weld in a short sleeve? Or is it more complicated then that?

No wish I had a picture or a closeup. The header flange is cut just past the second bolt hole so that the number one port is tight when bolted. The other three ports are left alone and all four ports use a stock header gasket. Then the header pipe goes over the column and fits into the existing tube that has been stretched on the end much like an exhaust pipe that is let's say 2 1/4 ID fits into a pipe that is 2 1/4 OD-no clamp is necessary since when the header is tight the joint cannot move. Wondered when I first saw it but it has not leaked in 13 years so pretty slick I suppose.

I had a fox body mustang back the 90s with headman mid length headers. Same design you just described.
