An older gentleman just gave me this fenton aluminum head for my 38 plymouth with the original 201. He had it on a 48 plymouth dragcar back in the 40's and 50's. It's been hanging in his garage ever since. I bead blasted it and it looks awesome, I can't wait to put it on. Does anyone know what this will do for my engine? I'm waiting for my split exhaust manifold to get here so I can add dual exhaust too. Is this thing rare? Is it worth much? Should I put any type of sealer on the haed gasket or use it dry? The shop manual doesn't tell.
Any flathead 6 cyl speed parts are rare and hard to come by. You've scored a really nice piece. By it's self it doesn't offer much improvement in HP but with dual exhaust, dual carbs and a cam I think you will be pleased. Plus it's a great looker.
That thing is awesome. You scored! If you've never been on the inliners.org site, you should check it out. Lots of technical expertise over there as well. They've got a forum just for Mopar flat 6's I believe....
I'm on that sight as well, I posted this over there but it's been kind of quiet. I just stopped by the local NAPA and ordered an entire set of gaskets for only $44. I have a little more bead blasting to do on the head and it will be ready to install, I think it's gonna look really cool. I also stopped at a shop and talked to him about bending up my exhaust pipes, he's excited about doing it and said he will make them perfect for me, I'm hoping the manifold shows up soon. I was really hoping to have it done before the weekend so I could bring it to the Syracuse Nationals, oh well, looks like we're going car-less.
I just found out on the inliners sight that the last one to sell on ebay (#300126841429) sold for $2,045!!! I'm still in shock. I started pulling my engine apart last night so that it's ready to put on when the gaskets show up. I'm so excited.
