Read the thread on Evans and was curious to your thoughts on Fenton speed parts. Are they not as wanted as the others?
It's a mixture of personal taste and supply and demand. Some Fenton pieces are reproduced, and therefore not hard to find. Other Fenton pieces (like cast iron headers for early SBCs) are in short supply and command high prices.
I've always looked at Fenton manifolds for Flatheads as one of the lower-end products from the 50's. They seemed to be sold at cheaper prices to the average guy - not as popular with the real racers who were running Edelbrock, Offy, Navarro, Evans, Sharp, etc.. At swap meets, they always seemed to be much cheaper than the big-name brands listed above. Just to add a bit more - witih the above being said, I'm not trying to say that I've had experience running them to promote or detract from their reputation. I've never owned a set - though I do have some Edmunds stuff. If you have some good vintage parts, run them . . . or have them repaired and run them.
Fenton bought out Edmonds in the fifties. The original Edmonds line was renamed along with some new products. Guess that means that my Edmonds heads match my Fenton intake, I have a complete set.
I like Fenton too. If it is worth collecting , it is worth using. My vintage speed part collection is on the Road!
I have a Fenton two pot and also some heads for a 59a. Some think they're the walmart of speed parts. I'm not going for any records, and they look O.K.
Fenton did a good job of packaging some things...their flathead manifolds came with kits that made them ACTUAL bolt ons ready to go after you screwed on everything in the box...I have their manual, and they took care of every damn detail for all '32--53 applications. Other makes came with no or inadequate acessories to solve all the problems, and an inexperienced buyer who slapped on a manifold Saturday morning was pretty unlikely to be driving his heap to work on Monday...
They made a lot of stuff. I used to have a Chevy 3 deuce intake that I liked because it wasn't as popular as the bigger names. This is all from their 53 catalog.
I remember seeing a whole pallet load of Fenton Y-block headers at Speedway Motors about 35 years ago. Wish I'd bought a couple of sets...
