I saw somewhere one of the major paint manufacturers was making water based automotive paints now, interesting concept, water instead of solvents, don't know how they do it, or about primer though,

  3. Water based, so you can have your kids finger paint your car. That's been discussed here on the HAMB before because CA is pretty much going to limit you to that stuff and nothing else, I think mostly out of environmentalist whacko concerns but that will vary depending on your point of view. A few guys dispose of stuff improperly and screw it up for everyone else. Anyways, I would imagine a search here will bring it up for anyone curious.

  4. Thanks, Lostforawhile, am glad you are doing better. Thanks to all for the info, had no idea how toxic everything has gotten, geeze. I think I'll leave my '53 in its original paint and patina; much safer to my family and me and more money for go-fast stuff!

I learn something new every day! Simple, cheap, and easy to get, too!

    Thank you.:D

  6. Damn----I always loved the smell of fibergl***!!!--and paint thinners!!! I always wore a charcoal filter mask for spraying paints but for general "work around the shop" I never bothered with a mask and the fumes of whatever never bothered me. I had a big old box of rubber gloves that somebody "liberated" from the local hospital which I wore when working with fibergl*** purely to keep my hands clean, but as far as the smell went, I always enjoyed it.---Brian

  7. I'm with you Brian. For 45 years (on and off) fibergl*** resin always smelled like money to me. From what I've been reading, I guess I should be sick as hell or dead.
Happy to say that at the ripe old age of 67 I'm in damn near perfect health.

I think they added the isocyanites within the last few years, probably the epa requiring something to be more dangerous to "protect us", i've been making stuff out of it for 20 some years too, and this is the first time it ever affected me like this.
