Hot Rods Fiero distributor in Chevy stovebolt six?

    I had points let me down once... because I had neglected them for years. So I guess I could say I let down the points.
    Of course this happened late at night on a chunk of highway with no lighting and no flashlight, so I had to wait until the odd car passed by to get a few seconds of light to see what I was doing, then wait for the next flash of light...
    I roughly gapped the points, drove home and the next day cleaned them with fine emery paper and set the proper gap.
    No problems for the next few years I drove the car.

    I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have had a chance of fixing it on the side of the road with 'lectronic ignition.

    ^^^^^ Not keeping modern ignitions up (plug wires and plugs) will do the same thing.

    It seems today with a points ignition its the capacitor that lets you down. Back in my early days of driving and learning from my dad; he told me to file and polish points which I did and rarely bought new ones. He also told me by examine the burn on the points you could tell whether you should keep the condenser or replace it. The addition of a vent hole prolonged them.
