I have a 8" rear with no tag laying around and was trying to figure out the ratio. It has some numbers on the crown gear they are 42 10, do these mean anything? Also I no this is probably a stupid question but the crown has 4 teeth chipped on the outside edge, could you run it or am I just asking for trouble? Thanks i phone pics 109.jpg

That's a 4:0+ rear is you take 42/10 you get 4:20. But I doubt that's the ratio. Count pinion teeth and ring gear teeth. Divide the ring into the pinion count and you'll have the ratio. But throw that set away. You need good solid teeth for long life. You can only see the currently chipped ones. I'm sure the ones around it are stressed if not already fractured. That is junk.

Slip of the tongue, divide pinion ,ie 10, into ring, ie 30, 3:00 rear gear.

amount of teeth on pinion gear divided into the amount of teeth on the ring gear will give you your gear ratio

the picture you show is the ring gear and it is junk with those chunks
