Can't tell you how many flat tappet lifter manufacturers are out there these days but using pre 1980's NOS parts will probably enhance your chances of ending up with good parts and avoid lost time and money.

The old days of relying on the vendors to produce these parts properly is over.

Best to get out the dial indicator check every lobe and every lifter. If you don't and it fails there's no way to know what really happened.

For my GMC’s ALL of the cams get old NOS or NOSR. When I find them I buy them. The 1939 chilled iron are the toughest to find for the steel cams. Not mentioned much here but I recommend using just enough valve spring pressure for what your plan is for the engine you are using. If you have ever looked at the factory closed spring pressure is for a 270hp 283” SBC you would be surprised to see the number.

We will only use lifters made by Johnson HyLift USA. If the cam is properly greased before installation and proper break in procedures are followed, a street SBF should have no problem.
