Hot Rods Finally after 51 years; I have a 1940 Ford Coupe

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by tonyimpala, Jan 28, 2014.

  1. I was in High School (1961) 10th or 11th grade and built my first model hotrod. A black 1940 Ford Coupe. I had 2 (real) Ford's hotrods one 1931 Model A roadster (avatar). The other Ford was a high tech 1937 convertible, not very traditional.
I hit the mother load last Tuesday when I won an all Henry steel 1940 Ford Coupe with a 1953 Ford flathead. A Std coupe black with maroon interior. I'm ashamed to say it was on evil bay. The 1940 was delivery yesterday. It was originally from South Carolina and restore by a guy from MD. I wish the car could talk and tell me how it lived its life. My first thought was Bob Mitchum behind the wheel with white lightening in the back.Every time I go in the garage I think I'm in someone else's house. I still can believe it. A week ago I was still dreaming and now it's real.:)

  2. Congrats. Got any plans for it, apart from driving the wheels off it? :D

What a beautiful car! Perfect. I am glad to hear you realized your dream. I hope we all get that opportunity. It sets perfectly. Does that have all original suspension?

Dang, You did hit the mother lode. That's a sweet '40. By "winning" I ***ume you mean you won the auction. Do you know who the guy is in Maryland who restored the car? It looks familiar, but that may just be because I saw it on the auction site. By the way Mitchum didn't drive the '40 in Thunder Road, Just sayin'. Enjoy the Coupe. It's a treasure for sure.

Great score! Doesn't matter where you got, just THAT you got it! If you wait for dreams to drive up to your door, they'll never be realized.

Beautiful coupe, congratulations ! I know exactly how you feel as I waited many cars and fifty years to get mine last year.
I still pinch myself when I go down to the garage to look at it.
    Drive and enjoy.

Pete, or is it Joe....anyway from the pictures it looks to have the original style front spring with a reversed spring eye and a beam axle with a CE sway bar. The rear looks like a CE parallel leaf set up.
