Hey guys I finally did it. after the airbag stuff sat around for months i decided to work on it a little for therapy! My friend Terry helped with the wiring stuff cuz that ain't my forte. Thanks Terry! it is an air over leaf with a 3" block and some leafs removed. and despite what others say it does ride great. I bought all of the equipment from Enhanced Concepts in pinellas park (for all you locals) thanks Frank. Frank does killer installs great projects. anyway just wanted to post the pics.
Man looks like you have a lot of lift. What bags did you use. What's the specs on them, min. height, max height, capacity@100psi
Did you do the front too? How did you deal with the torsion bars? Love the car by the way, very underrated cool body style.
Hey guys thanks for the props, i need to do some new shocks and cleaning up and all but its adjustable! Macs55 i used firestone f9000 this is a heavy car so i wanted these for my first setup. unsure of the minimum hgt but max is like 9.5 inches of lift safely. I don't drive it with 100 psi in it but you can find the parts at airride tech thats where i bought the air over leaf plates. They are rated at 1500 lbs each so 3000lbs for both. Squablow-thanks for the compliment. i know its not totally hot rod but i like 60's cars. it has a 440 bb engine with only 42000 orig miles anyway i only turned the torsions down some and it drives awesome not bumpy at all surprising enough man. i did not want to do the front due to selling it. if i ever sold it, this can be reversed to original stock. also i have kids and if i cruise with them in it i dont want to worry about popping a bag and swervin. if you re wondering tho you can just take out the torsions and you'll have to cut the holes in the frame to accomodate the bag and cups but it can be done with the right measurements. some people suggest leaving the torsions as a "backup" but it just isnt necessary. bags today are superior in quality and enough are getting done that we can learn the dos and donts. good luck!
What happens to the leafs and rear end when you floor that 440? You must have removed a bunch of them?
sorry havent been in here in a while but to answer the ? it runs out real strong and it can get a lil hoppy if I dont have the right pressure.
cool. i did my 50 Chev that way cause it was quick and cheap and i was poor on both time and money. it rode better than the air shocks that held it up when i bought it. i usualy recommend installing a 4 link or something of that nature but this works fine. especialy if you do not remove too many leaves so that your axle "wraps up" every time you get a little heavy footed on the gas peddle. you should have lots of fun with yer car now.
What is that? About a 66 Chrysler Newport? My buddy bought a 4 door 66 like that once. I thought he was crazy. At the time, there just wasn't anything cool about it. I really thought he blew his money. It grew on me though. He put Welds on it and cleaned and painted under the hood the 413 it had. It was white with green interior and "camera" finish dash. Low mile grandma car that drove like a Caddy. Took some road trips in it and it was a smooth comfy ride. I miss that car.
66 new yorker yeah she's a beauty and mine has the 440 in it very powerful I got a great one owner deal on it and I am just playing with it I drive it daily with the airbags and everything low and slow thats how I roll but It will keep up very well when I get on it . thanks for the post
