Hello, My name is Gary Malmquist, 54, from Muskegon, Mich. My name on here is "garysgun". Although not new to the board, as I have bought alot of items and sold several too, I guess I have not formally introduced myself. I was born in Quincy, M***. where I used to see hot rods from time to time and would get so excited about them. I used to build model kits and chop tops, make one car out of several different kits. I would buy Hot Rod and Rod and Custom mags when I was 10 years old also. I wanted to buy a model A at age 12 and make a hot rod but my dad said no. He was a Patternmaker and we had a lathe, drill press, and all sorts of tools for making parts so I watched him make things from a young age.
I moved to Michigan as the automotive industry was better for my dad, him being a pattern maker. I also became a patternmaker starting in the wood
shop building all sorts of masters, models and core boxes mainly for General Motors and Ford. I have made patterns and models for the 302 & 351 Fords, 350 Chevys, head patterns for many different engines, we made the 1st Viper block and head in the shop that I worked. We also were one of the top wheel mold producers in the world. I personally made the hub cap pattern and helped out with the sweet swirl and several other Halibrand styles when they remade them as they are available now. I then went into running a CMM
and checking all the jobs before they went out the door.
I built a Harley Sportster XLCH with the magneto and chopped it 3 different ways. The last time was an Arlen Ness Bay Area style and I have owned that for over 33 years. I then bought an old hot rod, a 1931 model A that was being redone with a new TCI frame, 350 Chevy and 350 trans with a 9" ford in the rear. It is about 80% done now. I also bought a Prostreet 23 T with a 454 and wheelie bars on it. I have redone that and it more fun than anything I have ever had. I like the 0-60 MPH in less than 4 seconds!!! I also own a
34 Ford Pickup body that some day one will look like Jimmy Shines truck.
I just got my 6th flathead today, now I have 2 Mercurys, one 49 Ford, and 3
late 50's Fords. I guess I have my work cut out for me.
Hot Rods are my p***ion that is all I think about! I just wish we had warmer weather in Michigan so I could drive mine more.
The TECH help on this web site is beyond comprehension. People go way out of their way to help each other out with pictures and text and it is like no other web site. Well this may of been long winded, but I was asked for an introduction and that is my story and I am stuck with it.
