well i had a close one, i just about sold my 36 roadster, i buddy asked me if it was for sale a few months ago i told him not really but maybe, well he brought a guy over that made me an offer and i told him yeah, but its gotta happen fast, i didnt want to second guess if i should sell it, well instead of a week like i told him he strung me along for 3 weeks, i had brought the car in the garage rounded up all the parts for him and got to looking at it, and finally after waiting longer than i wanted i changed my mind, and called him and told him he missed out on it, then i set about working on it again. i got the new steering arms bolted on, new tie rod, and drag link, got ahold of a nice 40 steering box, took out a couple of leafs in the front and got the nose closer to where i wanted it, but now i have to get some blocks in the back to get it down. heres a few pics JEFF
i also tore into the floor pans, i had started on the subrails a while back but then got sidetracked like my usualy style but im back on it now. heres a few pics of what i got accomplished today. time for a tunnel and then finish up the front of the floors. i still need to mount the body to the floor/subrail assembly but i wanted to get the floors done so i can stand in the car and work on the mounts for the A and B pillars. stay tooned for more JEFF
I think what was bumming you out on the car was the goofy little space saver front tires... Don't EVER sell a 36 roadster...you would probably never have another shot at one. Beautifull car. Good luck, -Abone.
WOW! I know the economy is rough right now, and the cash probably would be nice, but, man- DON'T SELL THAT CAR!! You'll have a hard time replacing that one! I sold a '29 Roadster pickup when my kids were little, because i needed new windows in the house, and i've kicked myself in the rearend for years over it!!!! I could've bought one window at a time, and still had a Roadster pickup!!
dont worry, im not gonna sell it now. ill be addressing the wheel issues soon, im still deciding what to do for rolling stock, its either gonna be 16's and blackwall stones or 15's and whites, well see what happens. the space saves make nice rollors approximatly sized to what will be on there. got the motor fired back up too, still seems to run good, well it better its all new. JEFF
I think your buyer missed out! Classic case of shit or get off the pot. Sounds like you made the right call though to not sell it, if you had we would have been reading another 'wish I would have never sold it post.'
That is sweet. Glad to hear you did not sell it. Is this the car you are driving to the Pile Up this year? KOOL Scott
yeah, i know i would have regreted it after i sold it but it happens, ive already done a few of those. i guess the reason i was thinking about selling it was that i was getting to exited over it, it wasnt getting the look i wanted it to but im back on the path with it again, just have to decide what style to go with. JEFF
Thanks for the inspiration. I had my car up for auction until I read this. It made me yank the ad - I just need to keep it and get on it. Thanks.
Close one. Years ago I sold my '36 3 window in a similar moment of weakness. Sadly the guy was there the next day with cash.
where was the roadster hidden? it was in the shed. i still have my 32 fiver, that one wont go anywhere if i can help it either. it needs a new motor, i have one for it i just need to slip her in! JEFF
Glad you kept the 36 - you'd regret selling it probably the day after it left your place. The chances of finding another one that you could afford would be slim . . . there just isn't that many of them out there.
Jeff You need to put blackwalls 750s in the back and 550s in the front. on it, heres some inspiration...
Anything less than 16" wheels should be outlawed on a pre-war Ford. Money is easier to come by than a '36 roadster. You made a wise decision. Can't wait to see this one come together. JH
im thinking 450 16 stones on the front and 700 stones on the rear. i have 700;s and 500/525-16;s so i might try those. Scott, dont know if ill make it to the pile up this year but well see JEFF
Jeff, glad to hear you are keeping the car. You woulda kicked yourself for a long time on that one....Don
Wow, that guy must not have been serious or had the cash, cause when offered a car like that, you don't hesitate if you have the means. Lucky for you he flaked!! That would have been a huge mistake!! It's looking kick ass. A far cry from the pile of parts when you first got it. That's the look I originally wanted for my cabrio (similar to my 5 window). But recently I am swaying more towards a prewar custom... and then you post those pics. Dammit.
Good choice-I've been looking for a 36 roadster I could afford since 1974 and haven't found one yet, so the chance of you finding one after selling that car is pretty slim. Keep going; you'll never regret it.
looks perfect, im still up in the air, but your set up looks great, been putsing on the floors, been to tired to bust butt on it. JEFF
glad that guy couldnt get his stuff together in time. New inspiration is great on a project!! Cant wait to see the "finished" product.
