Nice rig. I'm currently in the process of doing one as well. Did you notch the back of the cab over the frame? I currently have the front nearly in the same position as yours according to your photos anyway but I think the rear of mine sits to high and gives it too much of a rake. Maybe it's on here somewhere and I missed it I'm new to this site so still trying to figure out how to navigate.
My truck cab is notched up to the floor of the cab and a couple inches wider then the frame width, across the back of the cab. If you are using the modern fuel tank in its original position like I did, you also have to have a step notch to clear the front of the fuel tank, another 4" to 5" higher and around 6" deep into the back of the cab. Mine is a 49 cab, but 48-53 should be the same, and a 54-56 should be pretty close to the same as well. My cab floor sits an inch or so above the top of the frame.
Bravo ! Well done, always nice to see these particular older MOPAR trucks, saved from the scrapper. Very nice to see a MOPAR engine in it as well !
As you progress I have a lot of pictures on my build process, if you need to see anything specific. Its not on here since its really not HAMB friendly. There is a build thread on www.moparts.com (I'm "Poorboy" there) under the under tech board, then in the street rod section, about 3/4 way down the 1st page. My truck is on a 4x4 chassis, has an EFI 318,46RE, but most of it will transfer to your truck. My truck is not as nicely finished as the one posted, mine is a year around daily driver.
Thank you. The truck was put on the road in June 2021. 2 1/2 summers and 2 winters in the snow and salt. 14,000 + miles as of this morning. During the summer of 2023, the truck has been almost a 400 mile round trip to the WI hot rod 100 in May, to Nebraska (800 miles round trip) in Sept and 3 weeks later, in Oct to Kentucky (1400 miles round trip) plus the weekly driving. It is a driver.
Thank you! I will be checking it out. Guess maybe I should have done a little more research but im already im the middle of it. I'm sure it will come together. Mine will prob not be as nice as these here it's a little ratty but it has sentimental value to me as it was a project my dad and I purchased and never got to. He passed a few years ago and I can't just see it sitting. Already had the Dakota and figured hey it runs and drives I can piece them together. It's just v6 which I plan to run for now until it gives up then I have a few 318 or 360 options to go with. Anyways thank you again for your help I will definitely read through your posts
Nothing wrong with the V6 drive train. My 48 Plymouth coupe on the truck chassis has a 3.9 5 speed, the one in it now is the 2nd 3.9. Even the early throttle body EFI V6 has nearly 30 more HP in stock form then most built up flathead 6 motors I have seen have, but we are not suppose to say things like that here.
Moparman, how did you convert your door windows to full glass? I am working on a 54 and I need to do the same thing??
