Projects finally found a true 57 265 Chevy

    Only time the numbers mean anything is if they were a more high performance setup or a 55 Corvette owner is looking for a 265 with the correct casting date. Based on the release of the 55 Vette with a 265, the casting date needs to be correct, then if you need to you can "fix" the stamped code. Since 55-57 blocks contain no partial VIN number, people can only say these cars are "numbers correct and not "numbers matching" unless you know for certain all the parts are original to the car.

    You are correct in your thinking. Turbo glide engines were block mounted starters, all others mounted to the engine to trans adapter.
