After a nice 4 month hunt through all the parts yards and car clubs in my area, I finally broke down and bought an ECZ 9425-B intake on ebay. This is for a stock 292 Y block out of a '62 F100, C2AE block. I plan on working out a rebuilt motor in the new year with my (hopefully) adequate tax return, but there's always room to tinker with my truck as it sits.

I know this is already a pretty good stock intake, but I've heard there are ways to modify them to be pretty slick. I've already heard about cutting the carb mounting plane from the standard 4 bore to the elongated 2 bore pattern, with filling the air gap with epoxy of course. I already bought the 1 inch spacer per Ted Eaton's advice, however I was only able to find an open bore spacer in my local parts store.

The last mod I've heard of was blocking off the exhaust crossway with tin or aluminium or something. I'm a little iffy on this one actually, simply because I'm not exactly sure what the point is. If someone can shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it.

I'm looking to squeeze as much juice out of this as possible. I'm actually at a good point to where I can afford to have some downtime on my truck, since I have a nice little 4 day break for the holidays. Just want to make my days off as productive as possible, since I don't get too many of them nowadays.

    Merry Christmas,
    Cam

The reason they restrict the exhaust crossover port is to keep heat away from the carb. Less chance of the fuel boiling over after you shut it down. Also it won't burn the paint off your shiny new, just painted intake manifold. I use a thin strip of metal on mine or you can spring for the truck intake gaskets that are restricted.

That makes sense. So there's no performance gain from blocking the crossover port? I'll see if I have some other intake gaskets lying around.

While we're on the subject, what's the deal with this hole on the side of the crossover port? Its leaking exhaust pretty good and getting me a nice contact high whenever I'm going down the street. Any ideas? Can I block it? Oddly enough there aren't even any threads in it.
