Finally getting a HAMB car

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Skeezix, Jan 30, 2011.

  1. They made a overdrive trans for the flathead 6.

The block on that car is the longer 25" block. 236ci and puts out about 112hp Speed parts are hard to come by, but this intake is for sale on Epay.

    Also check out Edgy. http://www.edgyspeedshop.com/index2.html
He makes speed parts for the flathead 6 in your car. Cams, heads and intakes.

Also call George Asche. He is a wealth of knowledge on flathead 6 engines. I also believe he rebuilds and sells the overdrive trans. His number is 814-354-2621.

You want to keep a car like the one you have as close to original as possible. They only made I think about 2900 convertibles in 1950.

You have a car in great shape. Whatever you do dont street rod it.

  3. Yeah no hot rod fir this rare bird
Just want a safe driver and I have driven my grandmas tip toe a lot and hate it .... And it's been well sorted by a pro.

"As one 1950s car reviewer said, “It has all the disadvantages of a manual shift and automatic car combined.”

  4. So get this shit the DeSoto Owners group says there's only 12 left
So much for the hot rod - resto here I come

Since the other 11 probably are stock I wouldn´t loose any sleep over putting a better trans in her if that´s what you want.

I´d rather have a car that I can drive and enjoy than a bone stock just because it´s rare.

    My 2c...

  8. Agreed that a safe fun driver is a good way to enjoy the ride and anything in bolted alan be saved.
All I can seem to find have been modified 350/350
Now all I need is time and money ha ha ha

If you Google 1950 DeSoto, you might find photo and article references. I love custom cars, but this car is VERY RARE and it is to your advantage to keep it stock if possible. Try to hook up to a DeSoto club.......clubs are filled with members who have a treasure trove of parts and knowledge. Hemmings Motor News (online and at book stores) is a terrific resource. Also, there is a very big Chrysler and DeSoto club in the Sacto area. Best of luck..........so sorry you came upon this car the way you did. I am sure your brother is cheering you on !!
