Yesterday I finally got the wood stove chimney hooked up . Wood stove works good but no insulation so it does take the chill out . I had a fan blowing on the wood stove to help move the heat around . Works OK .

Anyway i got the hood off and took the radiator and parts out so I can pull the engine easier . I got the engine all undone on top today and things moved out of the way so the engine will come out ok . All I need to do now is cut the exhaust pipes up near the manifolds then they are out of the way . Then undo the trans linkage and then I need to pull the drive shaft , unbolt the trans mount and cross member , then the engine mounts . Then hopefully it will come out OK .

Am I missing anything else or does that sound like everything that needs to get done to pull the engine and trans ?

Make sure you have the franistat turned fully to the left, lock the basifier plates so they stay congruent with the block plane and make sure you lube the muffler bearings............ : )

Streetdreams , I already replace a 5 of the muffler bearings already so they are fine ! Have you had the fun of replacing the Kinibling pins yet ? Have fun they are hell to make them fit all 9 to git into the distributor !

Copper Top , yes got the speedo cable too , Thanks !

Anyway I had to get some work don so I did start undoing all the stuff on top the other day and after I came back from the Dr's I decided to check to see what I had left to do so I can that that engine and trans out . I am having a real bad time right now with a very nasty cold and swollen tonsil's ! So I decided to get some more work done on the car today so it will be ready to be pulled when the new owner (HAMBer) wants to come over , then we can pull it and drop it right on his truck . Well we are suppose to be down in the single digit's this weekend and maybe the mid teens during the day . My garage has no insulation since it's a pole barn . The concrete floor is so cold on the feet . anyway I really didn't want to start the wood stove up for about an hours of work I thought I would try to do since I have been sick and really just want to stay in the warm house !
Well I cut the exhaust and pulled the manifolds out of the way . I took the distributor cap off just in case I hit the firewall with it . I then unbolted the drive shaft , pull that and drained the trans fluid that way into a pan . I then decided to remove the 2 bolts on the trans mount . Then decided to take the 4 bolts off the engine mounts at the from . The new owner needs the mounts and they are still good to use .
So then I got out a chain and 2 longer bolts and got that ready on the intake with the chain bolted down so it will be ready to be pulled when the new owner wants it .
As I stood there looking at the "Old Girl" I said sorry but want a more modern engine but you have been good to me PLUS your new home will be in a rally sweet Roadster ! So I hooked up the engine hoist and figured I would see if I did get ever thing unhooked so the removable easily ! Well it really wasn't all that bad . Took me about 20 mins to get the old Y block and FoM out and now it sitting on 2 -4x4 still hooked to the engine puller ready for the new owner .
I took some pictures so when it's all done I will put all the pictures in an album for all to see the damn mess I got into !
So now the engine and trans is out and now all the real fun begins ! All the little things are going to kill me and I see that I need a couple front end parts that are worn out , idler arm , . All the rest look good . Of course I will have " chalupa55 " make me cross member to replace mine . Now is the time to do that when ever thing is out of the way .
Now I need to sell some thing to get some money to get what I need to get the car back together by May ! The real cold weather and snow is really slowing things down a lot I also need to contact Glenn at Rebal to get a wiring harness . I m not going to install an new engine and new trans to try to hook up to a 50+ year old wiring harness !
So I am very happy with the way things went this week ! I honestly didn't think the engine and trans would be out today at all !

BTW , I have about 6 or 8 of those orange plastic trans plugs ! I bought a bunch at the Carsile Ford show this last year . I have them on all my trans tail shafts . If going to be stored then I **** tape them to the tail shaft so I know they won't wall off for no reason ! those are some of the best things I ever bought ! Really says on a messy garage floor !

FYI - a steering box from a 1963 Galaxie will bolt in to your car if you want to upgrade to a better steering box. Of course you would also have to change the steering column, or adapt the stock one to match to a rag joint. I used the box and column, and the steering wheel. The box with the Galaxie pitman arm bolted in using the stock bolts, the wiring for the column plugged in to the wiring block. It was almost too easy. You still have the old ram ***ist power steering, but the box is quite a bit sturdier.
Now would be the time to do it while the engine bay is empty.

I will be replacing it with a 1985 Ford 302 flat tap and a C4 . I have a set of 66 --289 heads that have been reworked . Have the biggest valves they could fit in that head . Triple angle valve job , inner & outer springs , screw in studs , Crane roller rockers , metal guide plates , Comp Thumper Cam flat tap , Edelbrock RPM intake , Holley 570 Street Avenger , Electronic distributor , bigger coil , Tri Y headers made to fit , Y adapters with cables so I can open the headers when I want to :D , Will be using either Cherry Bombs or original Smithys for exhaust . Newly a rebuilt C4 and will use stock rear for now . I have a spare 8" Mustang rear but want better gears for that rear before I would make a rear end swap .
I also have a Mustang power brake set up I will be using , want to change the steering box over to Jeep P/S while the engine is out . Would really enjoy the p/s & p/b !
I also want to rewire with Rebal wiring harness .
I will also be cleaning up the fire wall and everything else under the hood I can do without . Weld all the extra holes that are in the firewall . Clean and sand everything so I can get some good paint under the hood .
I also removed & welded up all the door handles , locks and small trim pieces but left the body side trim holes there for now . I am going to pull the front and rear bumpers in as close as I can get them to the body .
While I have the engine out I am going to make sure the cross member is rusted up like most so this will be the time to have one made and welded in . Install new bushings and idler arm , repack the front bearings and replace any other thing while that engine is out of my way !

I have been taking plenty of pictures so when it's about don and I figure out how to make an album I will post all the mess I have been going through so get it this far !

Well I have been sick this week but felt a little better today . So out into the garage for a couple hours of work . I ended up s****ing all that greases and crud that is caked onto the all the front end parts and the frame . I used a putty knife and seems to work very well so far . Then I will get some degreaser and wash the rest down by hand and a scrub brush . Not fun but has to be done before I can get some paint on anything .
Guess I will warm the woodstove up and then back to cleaning the front end and firewall again tomorrow !
