Cool picture!!!!!! It's a shame the cars in the back ground are newer models because it would be hard to tell the difference from back in the day if the were older with your bucket setting there!
Thanks again, no drive today, moma had us doing some yard work. Since it was "her" day of course we obliged, hopefully tomorrow. Not sure on video of first run, I go out by myself so no one to man the camera lol
Just got back from a little ride, first off the thing blows the tires off way to easy...lol I stopped for gas, thought I was low but it only held 3 gallons in a 11 gallon tank. The fuel gauge reads backwards and it said 3/4's tank so I figure that's a 1/4 which is roughly 2.5 gallons, we might have to fix that. I was sitting at the light, middle lane of three wide and first, I rolled out about half way through the intersection and hit the gas about half throttle. Instantly blows the tires loose so I get right out of it and continue on for a couple more miles. I make a loop on another road heading back and about 2850 rpm in high gear (no kick down linkage) I decide to let it eat. Once again it blows the tires loose and it's wanting to drift right so I only stay in it for a couple seconds, that was about 40 mph ! This car has my attention now but the temps are getting 195 at the traffic lights so I head for home. Stay tuned...................
I'm sure everyone read the thread about the axle mishap and crunching the car. I have found a pair of doors and rear quarters and am hitting the rode tomorrow for a 3 hr ride to pick them up. I'm really stoked with the pictures of them and also got a great deal, can't wait to pick them up. They are a little south of Elmira Ny down in Pa., did I say I was excited about finding them !
Good deal. Always good to have an extra set of doors ( just in case you get your doors blown off... ) Have a safe trip.
This stuff is in really nice shape, I think the doors are better than the ones on the car ! The people were great too, they run a modern tube chassis J that runs 6.20"s in the 1/8th.
Nice to be able to find the parts so close to home, and to be as clean/nice as they are.Good for you.
In will only hurt till the first cut. I prefer to use 1/4 steel rod instead of brake tubing. Easier to bend in a uniform shape, easier to weld to and stronger lip when done.
Uh get your axles magnufluxed before racing ?...lol http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=700137 .
Not sure yet, I would only cut the right rear quarter as that's the one I need. I got a Facebook message from a fiberglass manufacture saying he could build radiused quarters, which I've seen and are really nice. He says not to cut them because they are to hard to find that solid. I told him we could work out a trade so not cutting them just yet. Who knows if we can work something out or not but I'll wait a little before getting out the saw.
Bozo walked in front of the camera at the worst time. I couldn't tell if you snoozed at the tree or if the Nova was just fast.
Nothing to get excited about other than the Henry J made it down the track yesterday without breaking ! It went 7.51, 7.41, more launch rpm and spun, lost a tenth in the 60 ft but picked up 1.5 mph and back to a 7.51. First round lowered the launch rpm a bit to low and got the dreaded tunnel ram bog, couldn't catch the guy so just let out of it. But Nothing BROKE !!! I had some butterflies before that first pass for sure, wondering what could go wrong..lol Clik at this point after the last two times out with breakage I was just trying to get down the track and back in one piece. I had terrible lights, just trying to get a feel of what the car wanted and the nova had me covered by .55. He did end up winning the whole scha-bang at the end of the night, that pass on video was when it spun.
It's good to see a real steel Henry J go down the track no matter how fast or slow. I'm still waiting on my trans man so I can finish mocking up my frame and I've still got to rebuild all the rot around the doors. Bewteen that and moving two hundred miles and a 24/7 business...man...I hope I live long enough.
