Yeah, wish I could spray it like you did, but a rolling I must do. Wet sanded it today with 600 and hope to paint the main body in the morning and if I feel up to it maybe the quarters at night. We'll see how that goes when I get there, might just do a quarter a day like the last time.
Every great piece of art starts on canvas. I never said on my build thread that i rolled the trunk lid (exterior surface only). It was a "test" and it worked just as good (or bad) as the spray. The shape or curvature of the panel has alot to do with being able to roll it vs. spray it. Your car being less curvy than mine should turn out great.
Just got in from rollering..lol It was going so well that I decided to also do the quarters. Wiped out and already getting stiff from sitting here but damn-it I think I'm getting close to the finish here. little trouble around the rain gutter but I'll try and sand that out
Lookin' Good! For some reason my sub doesn't come through so I just have to find it when it comes to the top every now and then. It's been about 3 pages since I last saw it. The paint makes a HUGE difference. Lost some of that nasty attitude without the flat black though. Devin
Thanks guys, if it's done in time I just might bring it to Hamburg, still a bit to do yet here. I liked the flat black but just wanted something a bit more flashier I guess. There are a few flat black cars that race with us in the Gasser Racing Series and it gets lost in the lineup. I'm not really a flamboyant type but just wanted something different. I'm still thinking about colors to do off this white background. I love my "Bad Moon" name for the car and often think a gray, silverish blue and black scheme would go better with the name over the yellow/orange combo. I dunno ?
Lookin' Good Phil! Damn you work fast... or should i say roll fast? haha Yeah i like the name for your car. Blue Panels on the white might looks pretty darn cool! Maybe with some cobwebbing inside the panels or something? haha I do like the yellow and orange on white that i've seen pics of too though...
Phil you could hide B&W camo like http://nascar.speedtv.com/article/cup-chevy-to-show-real-nascar-sprint-cup-series-ss-in-vegas/
therea purdy one (vett) here http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=671112&page=3 and tape for fun? http://www.ebay.com/itm/6-Rainbow-Colors-Prism-Vinyl-Tapes-1-4-x-25-feet-/120385114414
Paint logo idea: The left side could taper off and extend all the way to the rear as a trail of those spooky clouds.
Phil. I am impressed with the "roller paint job". Looks great. Now, if you do the cobweb and lace work with a roller, I'll really be totally blown away!
With the growing popularity in nostalgia drag racing and the building/restoration of gasser-styled I have wondered why initially many of them were not painted in more era correct paint themes. Panel paint jobs filled with lace, cob-webbing, heavy metalflake, fogging, fading, etc, etc scream of the "days" people are trying capture with the recreations & restorations of gasser style cars today. Even though a paint job for the Opel is a LONG way off..... my wheels are turning with more & more thoughts of a "panel paint job".
So I had this dream........Ed Roth style monster bent over with a pimply hairy set of buttocks displayed with Bad Moon lettered above...ha ha ha Thanks for the replies, it defiantly looks better over the computer screen than in person but we'll try and wet sand/buff to match.
i see a lot of "gassers" with flames and i'm always pissed! gassers don't have flames! and primer was for the broke guy that wanted to have crazy paint lol
StraightAxle.... Come to think of it you are right. It wasn't like there were NOT ANY "flamed Gassers" but no where near the amount than is seen today. I LIKE flames and had considered going with a "for now" paint job of flat/satin black with high gloss black flames until everything is right for a really good paint job. There is no doubt flat black (often called the "American hot rod color") is also a lot today. I LIKE flat black too.... But NOT forever. Realistically, overall the cars of today (including gassers) are much better built than "back in the day" .... both mechanically and cosmetically. Oh sure, there where a lot of nice cars back then.... but most local non-professional drag & street racers did not have the high quality of fit, finish & performance that we all strive for (want) for our cars today.
Swade, do you know what the bake pedal bracket under the dash is out of? Others? I want to go to a dual master and am trying to decide if it is less trouble to just go off the firewall, thanks.
Looking good swade, I ended up rollering my Willys in grey primer, It came out amazingly well, most people think its sprayed.
No idea it was in the car, I took off the power booster and master and used a 71 ford truck manual master, I believe it was a 71. Ha, I didn't know you rolled that, cheap way to paint as long as you don't count man hrs for the job....ha ha ha I'm ready to apply another coat after I eat lunch today. I was able to sand out most of my rain gutter screw ups but also cut through in some places.
I think I am done with the white on this section, the car might not be done but I am done. There's plenty of coverage and I have the extra panel sections going on over it. This last session of wet sanding gave me almost a nice even flat surface to work off of so I think there is enough on there. I don't want to add to much paint weight...lol
So this is the final coat of white, I know it looks the same as the others but it's thicker ..lol Today I decided to spend an hour and try some test panels. I've never tried either before or rattle can lace, so lets throw caution to the wind and suck up some overspray. First thing I noticed is my tape for the endless line was to wide, didn't go around corners to well. Also the lace was hard to stretch tight and half ass line up to look like something. I learned a little and now need to decide which pattern will be a good one, then spray bomb away !
